The War in Heaven

11 January

The other day we looked at one of Orson Pratt’s false prophecies/teachings. His statement that the body of Christ ceased to exist, is of course, a lie. That being said, there was something else in his sermon we’re going to look at today. As a reminder, let’s take a look at his comments and then we’ll ask some questions!

Orson PrattJournal of Discourses 13:125; “Jesus made his appearance on the earth in the meridian of time, and he established his kingdom on the earth. But to fulfill ancient prophecies the Lord suffered that kingdom to be uprooted; in other words, the kingdoms of this world made war against the kingdom of God, established eighteen centuries ago, and they prevailed against it, and the kingdom ceased to exist. The great beast that John saw made war with it and prevailed against it, and human institutions, without prophets or inspired men, usurped the place of the ancient kingdom of God.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, April 10, 1870

Revelation 12:7-8; “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, 8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.”

Orson Pratt didn’t pronounce just one false prophecy in his teaching here, but three.

1.The great beast/dragon John saw in a vision was the kingdom of this world. In other words, it’s the antichrist. It’s any so-called kingdom, who fights against the body of Christ.

That means anyone who denounces Christianity qualifies for the status of antichrist. Anyone who says the Jesus of the Bible isn’t God, and anyone who doesn’t believe in the God of the Bible is the antichrist. It’s pretty simple…when/if you fight against the Lord, you qualify.

A church can be one of the kingdoms John was speaking of in his revelation. Just because a church might be labeled a ‘mega-church’, or even when they have millions upon millions of members, it doesn’t mean their brand of a gospel they’re preaching is truth. We as Christians must stand firm in biblical truth, and be in His word at all times (Acts 17:11).

2.The ‘human institution’ Pratt spoke of is indeed the body of Christ, and that organization is filled withDSC05242 inspired men/women, and it even has prophets today!

Germany 2009 1353.As we pointed out the other day, Jesus promised us the gates of hell wouldn’t prevail against His church so why is Mr. Pratt denouncing what Jesus said?

Matthew 16:18; “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will Germany 2009 108build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

Stand firm beloved in the gospel you’ve heard Col. 1:23, because our Lord God will never desert you – guaranteed! Heb. 13:5

The images in this post are just a few of the Christian churches I’ve snapped pictures of in my travels. Top right was taken in Roache Harbor, WA, in the San Juan Islands. It’s been there since the mid 19th century. The other two are from villages in Germany. Image on bottom right is a church that’s been in existence since 1050 AD. Church on bottom left has been in existence since the 14th century. It’s one of the churches from where Martin Luther preached.

They’re all proof Jesus keeps His promises!
