The Palm Sunday Miracle 2019

15 April

With the advent of Holy Week, there’s going to be a slight delay in posting all of the General Conference talks. We’ll post 1-2 sporadically throughout this week, but our main focus right now is the importance of biblical events leading up to our Lord’s death on the Cross for us! Praise His Holy Name!

Palm Sunday is of course, one of the most important days in all of time. It marks the day when Jesus finally allowed for people to worship Him as King. Up until that day there were numerous times people had tried to label Him as King, but those were done with the intent to do Him harm, and He always said, ‘It is not my time’.

John 6:15; “When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.”

John 7:30, 44; “Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. 44 And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.”

John 8:59; “Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

John 10:39; “Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand.”

The timing of His announcement was solely in His hands, for He had come to do His Father’s will, and to fulfill scripture. Because He’s God, He controlled all things

. We can see how cool this is when we look back at historical events found in secular writings, and how they’re mentioned in the Bible as well! Check out the following passages –

On March 14, 445 BC, the Medo-Persian emperor Artaxerxes Longimanus, issued an order for Jerusalem to be rebuilt. Through Nehemiah, their work began…

Daniel 9:25a: ‘Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem…’

And just as foretold, there would be hardships during the process. Workers carried swords with them during the construction! Daniel 9:25b;

‘…the street shall be built again, and the wall, even i

n troublous times.

(As a side note here: I’ve merely listed the highlights of the mathematical fulfillment of this prophecy. There are numerous sites on the web with exhaustive details that I highly encourage the reader to investigate and study for further info on this topic!)

Fast Forward 476 Years…

As seen in the scripture

noted above, when Gabriel appeared to Daniel, he told him the interval between the time of rebuilding Jerusalem to the time of the Messiah would be 69 weeks. In order to figure out exactly when this would happen we first need to look at all of the methods mankind has used to mark the passage of time.

Jewish calendars used a 360-day year which means 69 weeks is the equivalent of 173,880 days. After taking into account leap years, and adjustments on the Julian calendar, it brings us to Palm Sunday, April 6, 32 A.D. This of course, is the very day the following events took place as prophesied in the OT –

His entry on a colt donkey was a prophetic sign He was the long awaited Messiah.

The Messiah would be presented to Jerusalem riding on a donkey.

He would be greeted with rejoicing in Jerusalem.

The Messiah would be beheld as King.

Zechariah 9:9; “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.”

Matthew 21:6-10; “And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them, 7 And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon. 8 And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strewed them in the way. 9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. 10 And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.”

Mark 11:7-10; “And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him. 8 And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strewed them in the way. 9 And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord: 10 Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.”

Luke 19:33-40; “And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt? 34 And they said, The Lord hath need of him. 35 And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon. 36 And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way. 37 And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; 38 Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. 39 And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. 40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.”

John 12:12-13; “On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.”

Now, with all that info, it’s hard to say the Bible has been mistranslated, or that it’s missing key events in history!

The Mormons aren’t the only  guilty party in such blasphemous theories, however, we’re praying they would come to realize how utterly wrong they are. This prophecy is by far one of the strongest signs of Jesus not only being the Savior, but specifically how He’s God too.

May you be blessed, and know how very much Jesus loves you!
