The Missing Priesthood in BoM

11 May

1 Nephi 5:9 “And it came to pass that they did rejoice exceedingly, and did offer sacrifice and burnt offerings unto the Lord; and they gave thanks unto the God of Israel.”

Mosiah 2:3 “And they also took of the firstlings of their flocks, that they might offer sacrifice and burnt offerings according to the law of Moses.”

Numbers 18:6-7 “And I, behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel: to you they are given as a gift for the LORD, to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation. 7 But only you and your sons shall attend to your priesthood for everything concerning the altar and what is inside the veil, and you are to perform that service. I am giving you the work of the priesthood as a gift, but any outsider who comes near the sanctuary must be put to death.”

Today we’re wondering what happened to a key element in biblical history, the Priesthood. The Book of Mormon is sorely lacking of details regarding this topic.

Considering the machine that runs Mormonism is a system of priesthoods it’s odd the narrative doesn’t have more to offer. Furthermore, there’s also the fact the info on Lehi belonging to the tribe of Manasseh is extremely vague. If they were from the tribe of Manasseh, they’d know they weren’t eligible to offer sacrifices. See Alma 10:3 for the claim Lehi came from Manasseh.

According the God’s word only Aaron and his sons were allowed to offer sacrifices. Here’s how GotQuestions.org described this –

“Aaron and his sons were appointed by God to be priests for the people, and Aaron was the first high priest. God gave Moses commandments about the priesthood, including how to consecrate priests and what garments they should wear, on Mount Sinai. God told Moses that the priesthood would belong to Aaron and his descendants by lasting ordinance (Exodus 29:9). Aaron was made the high priest, and his family line continued to serve as priests until the destruction of the temple in AD 70. The New Testament book of Hebrews spends much time comparing Jesus’ permanent priesthood to the Aaronic priesthood. Priests of the Levitical line had to offer sacrifices for their own sins and sacrifices on behalf of the people continually. Jesus was without sin, and His sacrifice on behalf of the people was made once and is finished (see Hebrews 4—10).”

There’s no question the entire BoM is a fabrication from Joseph Smith.

When I think about the people Smith’s lies have impacted it’s heartbreaking. I’m just one person, but I know a lot of Mormons so I can’t imagine the total number of people who has believed the lies.

I’m certain the Lord’s heart aches more than my own.

Please pray those who read the made-up stories would stop to think these things through!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
