Retro-engineering Joe Smith’s Plagiarism

15 April

In their routine fashion of diverting attention via means of confusion, the Church tweaked what it plagiarized from the prophet Isaiah.

The Church’s message on the importance of baptism has been stretched to its limit. They’ve made their canon so confusing, it’s difficult to determine which is worse – lying about the Israelites practice of baptism in the BC era (which they didn’t do), or retro-engineering what Joe Smith plagiarized from Isaiah’s prophecy.

Let’s sort this out to you can lovingly share this with the Mormon you know, and give demonstrative evidence of why their canon was written to confuse them.

Here’s what the original Book of Mormon said –

1830 Book of Mormon, p. 52; “Hearken and hear this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of thewaters of Judah, which swear by the name of the Lord . . .” [emp. mine]

In 1964 the Church rewrote Joe Smith’s plagiarism of Isaiah. Here’s what it says now –

1 Nephi 20:1; “Hearken and hear this, O house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, or out of the waters of baptism, who swear by the name of the Lord…”  1964 ed.

Here’s what it says in the Bible –

Isaiah 48:1; “Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, Which are called by the name of Israel, And are come forth out of the waters of Judah, Which swear by the name of the Lord, And make mention of the God of Israel, But not in truth, nor in righteousness.” [emp. mine]

Isaiah 48 is an exhortation to Judah to shape up! It’s believed he wrote this c. BC 711, and while God knew full well they’d disobey, He was ready, willing, and able, to promise them blessings because they were Israelites.

This had nothing at all to do with baptisms, nor did it have anything to do with the so-called Nephites. This little blurb in the BoM serves as another method to fill up space on a page, and confuses the Mormon people.

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
