Religiosity, not Jesus, is Center of Mormon Faith

31 March

Romans 10:9-10; “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Today we’re taking a quick look at an article Melissa came across at LDSLiving.com, ’10 Reasons You Should be Mormon’. The title of their article reminded us of our warehouse of quotes, ‘1,000 Reasons to Leave Mormonism’. That aside, we’re wondering why she isn’t promoting Christianity? Why are they always trying to pull people away from Christianity, and into Mormonism?

Although she doesn’t realize it, the young female author of the article is in dire need of our prayers! Check out what she had to say, and please, remember to pray for her, and other Mormons caught in these lies. You can read her article in full at LDSLiving.com 10 Reasons Why You Should Be Mormon. Let’s begin shall we?!

1.Jesus Christ is the center of our faith.

No, His name is the center of the title of your church, but not the focus…proof of this is found in the next point the author makes.

2.God still speaks to the world through a prophet.

True prophets only prophesy about the things God has already revealed.

3.The Book of Mormon is MORE evidence of Christ.

Name one thing in the BoM that reveals anything new about Jesus, not already in the Bible. We guarantee there is nothing to be found.

4.We have no paid clergy.

Not true. Everyone from the district leaders on up to the prophet, receive funding from the Church.

5.We have the biggest missionary program EVER!

Not true.

The body of Christ does. Each person has been commissioned to share His gospel with the world. Matthew 20:18-20. Believers refer to this as the ‘Great Commission’. A common, and well known phrase in Christianity, goes this way – ‘The Great Omission of the Great Commission is not sharing  your faith with others’.

6.We know death does NOT separate families.

Jesus knows of no such thing, and in fact, preached against this in the gospel of Matthew.

Matthew 22:30 ‘…they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.’

7.We have temples!

So does Christianity. Each person who believes in Him is the temple of God. 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19.

This is actually very sad. Why haven’t the teachers of this young woman told her the truth? She’s busy bragging about the buildings of her religion, however, this isn’t what God talks about in His word.

At Jesus’ death, the temple curtain was ripped in half, and then in 70 AD, the entire temple was destroyed putting an end to all works inside the temple. This historical event further proved that God took up residence inside His believers.

8. We have authority from God.

So do Christians as we mentioned earlier in Matthew 20:18-20. We received our authority from the same place John the Baptist got his. God.

9. We aren’t perfect, but we have the same goal.

The same goal as…what? The goal in Christianity is to be a humble representative of our God, so as to not bring shame to His name. Are you on your way to Jerusalem with Jesus?

10. We can have happiness forever!

Christians have that now by living out their lives walking in Him. We have this in knowing His death paid the redemptive price for our sins, which in turn gave us direct access to God!
