Provisions of Two Gods

John 14:27; “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

LDS No PeaceGeneral Conference, ‘Opposition in All Things,’ April 2016; “The purpose of mortal life for the children of God is to provide the experiences needed “to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize their divine destiny as heirs of eternal life.” …

From the beginning, agency and opposition were central to the Father’s plan and to Satan’s rebellion against it…

One of the best explanations of the planned role of opposition is in the Book of Mormon, in Lehi’s teachings to his son Jacob.

“It must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things. If not so, … righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad” (2 Nephi 2:11; see also verse 15). … Similarly, in modern revelation the Lord declares, “It must needs be that the devil should tempt the children of men, or they could not be agents unto themselves” (D&C 29:39).” – Dallin Oaks

1 Corinthians 14:33; “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”

Our topic today arises from something I saw on the front page of the LDS website that actually startled me when I saw it. My first thought was what Jesus told His disciples on His last visit to Gethsemane before He was crucified; ‘Peace I leave with you’.

Simply stated, the speech Mr. Oaks gave at General Conference was a lesson on what theologians refer to as ‘dualism’. This ‘theory’ however, is always a false one. The only superpower, if you will, is God. Nothing else compares to Him, even when Satan raises his ugly head.

Dualism is nothing more than another version of Witchcraft, and has absolutely no place in what God originally planned for mankind. Unbelievers are the only ones who think there has to be opposition in everything.

The other startling fact about Mr. Oaks’ lesson is what he didn’t say. He left out the very next verse from his Book of Mormon reference. Here’s what it says in 2 Nephi 2:12

“Wherefore, it must needs have been created for a thing of naught; wherefore there would have been no purpose in the end of its creation…”

Translation: if God didn’t create evil, there would be no purpose in His creation.

The problem with this goes beyond the scope of our post today, suffice it to say, they should explain what God meant in Genesis. According to the Bible, God isn’t the reason for evil in this world –

Genesis 3:14; “And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Becausethou hast done this, thou art cursed…” [emp. mine]

As we look at the true provisions of the God of the Bible, we see that He’s given us peace in a world gone mad. However, true biblical peace is unrelated to, and doesn’t focus on circumstances. The world may be ‘going to hell in a hand-basket’ as the popular saying goes, but the inner life of a Christian sits undisturbed. This is because of Him, and what He’s provided to His children.

This is the type of life the Apostle James related to us in his epistle (James 1:2), and what we witness in Paul’s life as he, and Silas sat in a jail in Philippi, and sang praises to God. Acts 16:25

To believe, let alone teach, God needed evil for His plan to work is blasphemous beyond description. They’ve tried to take power away from the All-Powerful, Almighty God, and place it in the hands of the one who authors evil.

There are two kinds of peace mentioned in the Bible; objective and subjective. Objective peace is something that takes place outside of ourselves in which we have no control over. Objective peace is seen in God’s triumph over evil with the death and resurrection of Jesus. Colossians 1:20-22 tells us peace was made through the blood of the cross. It’s something that’s already done, therefore this is an objective peace.

The subjective side of peace can be found in John 14:27. This peace is given to us by Jesus, and it’s part of Him! Notice the text where it says ‘I give to you My peace’. It’s the peace He had in Gethsemane as He willingly turned Himself over to the Roman garrison to be executed. This is the peace He’s given to us! The provisions of this God is far different from the provisions of the other god we’ve talked about today.

We can be here forever and a day listing all the reasons why this LDS teaching is wrong, but for now think upon the words from John’s first epistle and ask yourself which doctrine you’re going to believe, because they both can’t be right! Will it be Mr. Oaks, or the Apostle John who wrote the following –

1 John 1:5; “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”
