Peculiar People – Mormon Quotes

Journal of Discourses 16:230-231; I will make a few remarks upon the idea of our being a peculiar people. You know that we are regarded as such, and if we look upon ourselves from a proper point of view, we shall readily admit that in this respect outsiders have given us an appropriate name; for we are a peculiar people whom God has chosen to serve and honor him.” – Orson Hyde, Salt Lake City, October 5, 1873.

1 Peter 2:9-10But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

The word “peculiar” in the Greek is actually a primary preposition meaning “to or into (indicatins the point reached or entered) of place, time or purpose.

The Mormons are peculiar because they believe they can become polygamous gods and for practicing polygamy at that time (and sometimes even today).

Suggestion:  if you’re going to pick up phrases and words from the Bible to employ them to  yourself, do it in context.
