Passion of the Christ and Mormons

Mormons stay away from Passion because of ‘R’ rating
In what is just another example of how Mormons are under the law, Mormons stayed away from theaters for the Passion of the Christ so they would not be seen at an R-rated movie.  In spite of what Mormons think, in reality, Mel Gibson probably did not go far enough in his depiction of Christ’s suffering.

One has to wonder if the story was about Joseph Smith’s death, would the church care as much about these arbitrary ratings? Does the church care about appearances to a worldly rating system more than sharing in the suffering of their “Lord”?

In a word, yes!

I wonder if it’s not also for the fact that Mormons reject mainstream Christianity, and this movie would force Mormons to view Christ’s death in a mainstream-Christian way. It’s like your post about Mormons not wearing a cross necklace because it emphasizes Christ’s death. That’s ridiculous! As a former Mormon who found God over a year ago, I wear a cross to remember that God decided to die for my sins, and it is through his death that I have eternal life. It is through his death that I can lay my burdens and sins at the cross, and I can move through life with my rock and my refuge in God because of that choice.

It is not because Christ died on a cross, by a pagen exicution, that we have eternal life, that are sins can be forgiven and we have refuge in God BUT because Christ LIVES, he came forth out of the tomb on the 3rd day so we can all live again, so that we can live with God agian. It wasn’t on the cross alone that he paid for out sins but in the garden of gethsemene, in solmn, sincere, heart felt prayer to his father that he willingly suffered for our pains and sorrows. the cross does not represent his gift of eternal life, the scripturers and answered prayers and blessings we recieve everyday are the proof that he LIVES!

it is not because Christ died on the cross by a pagen exicussion that we are saved, blessed with eternal life, forgiven of out sins and have the opportunity to return to live with God. It is because Christ LIVES that we have the opportunity to live with him for eternity. Our opportunity to repent was not created on the cross but in the garden of gethsemene when christ prayed on our behalf to his father. In solmn and painful moments, alone, he took our pain and sorrow. It is because of his perfect life and his resurrection that we have the opportunity to enjoy eternity with God and our Savior. The cross is not why we have eternal life, we have eternal life because Jesus Christ LIVES.

you are right and wrong. Right because he did sacrifice and live a perfect life, and because he lives. It’s so amazing to think he still lives today. But what I pray you understand is that we are not forgiven because he prayed for us in the garden. We are forgiven because he died for ua. Amyone can

Amen Collective Disclosure! I appreciate the way you worded this. We aren’t forgiven because he prayed for us…great insight – thank you!

      To “Tolerance and Understanding”:
Thank you so much for writing in! We want you to know also that we’re praying for you – and I don’t say that to demean you or any other Mormon. We mean it with all sincerity. We pray you will read the passages I list below and truly give it some heavy thought and study.

A sacrifice had to be made. I point to the numerous passages in the Old Testament where God tells us in detail how to atone for sins, life is in the blood, covenants are made with blood sacrifices…

Leviticus 17:11; “For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”

Then we find in Deut. 21:22-23 where it says “cursed is he that hangs from a tree…” He has given us ample opportunities to see how, where and when Jesus would sacrifice His life for our sins to be forgiven. In the New Testament Jesus Himself told the disciples that as a friend he would die for them – John 15:13. Jesus didn’t lay down His life in the Garden of Gethsemane. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

Also think upon John 18:11; “Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?”

He still had work to do! Scripture tells us very plainly that He hadn’t drank from the cup the Father had given to Him.
While hanging on the cross (John 19:30) He finally said “It is finished”, meaning the work He came here to do was done. The price had been paid for the sins of man. His next breath was His last.

His resurrection was a sign to us that we’d have eternal life and live just as He does now – alas, He is the first fruits!
Romans 4:25; “Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.”

Anyone can pray for someone. Only Christ can bring us salvation through his death AND resurrection.

Amen! Mormons do reject the cross because that is where the price for sin was paid for and the cross is the gateway to our life with God.
Take away the cross, you take away any reason for God to make a way for us.
Thankfully, Jesus warned us of these things in John 10:1-2 when He said that He is the door and the true shepherd.
When the Church says that it’s only through their organization a man may be saved we can know for certain they’re wrong.
We’re praising God for your salvation in Him!

    I really love 1st Corinthians 1: 17 and 18…

17For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

18For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
