Omni’s Plagiarized Anachronisms

12 March

Omni 1:25-26 “And it came to pass that I began to be old; and, having no seed, and knowing king Benjamin to be a just man before the Lord, wherefore, I shall deliver up these plates unto him, exhorting all men to come unto God, the Holy One of Israel, and believe in prophesying, and in revelations, and in the ministering of angels, and in the gift of speaking with tongues, and in the gift of interpreting languages, and in all things which are good; for there is nothing which is good save it comes from the Lord; and that which is evil cometh from the devil. 26 And now, my beloved brethren, I would that ye should come unto Christ, who is the Holy One of Israel, and partake of his salvation, and the power of his redemption. Yea, come unto him, and offer your whole souls as an offering unto him, and continue in fasting and praying, and endure to the end; and as the Lord liveth ye will be saved.” 323–130 B.C. [emp. added]

Acts 2:4 “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

Isaiah 45:22, 24 “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. 24 Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed.”

Oh the tangled web we weave…

My concern over the plagiarized, uninspired text in the BoM remains unchanged.

How does this benefit the average Mormon like my mother?

Can this bring someone closer to Jesus?

How could people believe in the gift of tongues before it began?

How could someone be saved through the redemptive powers of Christ before He was born?

The phrase ‘offer your whole souls as a sacrifice’ sounds as if they copied what Paul said in Romans 12:1 to give your bodies as a living sacrifice to the Lord.

If you’re unaware this is an anachronism because the word ‘Omni’ is Greek. Greek wasn’t in use at the time Smith’s book of Omni was supposedly written. Furthermore, Smith claimed there was no Greek or Latin on the golden plates when he ‘translated’ them.

If/when you have the opportunity, ask the Mormon you know about these major problems and don’t forget to pray always!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
