No Temple Means No Salvation

13 February

Joshua 24:15 “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve…”

Journal of Discourses 12:162; “We cannot now administer the further ordinances of God in the fullest sense of the word legally unto the people, neither shall we be able to do so until we have a temple built for that purpose. … We must be situated in local circumstances wherein we can efficiently administer in those ordinances of the house of God that cannot be administered to a people while they are scattered abroad among the nations of the wicked.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, February 16, 1868

Acts 4:12; “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

Romans 1:16; “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

We have a couple of questions regarding Mr. Young’s laundry list of do’s and don’ts to be saved. For Mormons then, and now, that means godhood status.

1.What happened to Jesus? Where is He in this whole temple ordinance scene?

2.If you don’t live near a temple and can’t afford the travel expenses to attend, what happens? Are you not saved even if you’re temple worthy?

3.Here in the 21st century the Mormon Church has temples all over the world. Surely, the location of some of those temples are now in the ‘wicked nations’ Brigham referred to in his speech 179 yrs ago. Are they considered worthy now?

4.As noted above, this mandate is actually still in effect today.

5.Moreover, the Salt Lake Temple wasn’t completed until 1894. The St. George Temple wasn’t complete until 1877. So even though God had told them how to be saved, they still had no way to do so until those all important temples were built. Would a benevolent God really do such a thing?

Be sure to ask the Mormon you know if they concur with Brigham on this one, and don’t forget to ask about those ‘wicked nations’.

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
