Does Mormonism Fulfill Prophecy?

12 March

Isaiah 29:15-16; “Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the Lord, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us? 16 Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter’s clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding?”

Russell NelsonToday we’re checking out a speech given by LDS apostle Russell M. Nelson in 2013. I came across this talk while gathering info for a different project, and I just couldn’t let this pass on by. The format today is going to be a bit different, so hang with me and it’ll all make sense!

Mr. Nelson’s speech contained 22 lies. Ugh. I honestly don’t recall ever seeing this many lies in one talk, which makes it even more frustrating! So what I’ve done is to pull a few of them, listed them below, and at the end of the article you’ll find all 22 of them in order. To read his speech in full, the link is provided in the title of his speech.

We have a lot of questions today, but the main one is this: Does Mormonism fulfill biblical prophecy?

One more thing – it seems whenever we, or rather I, don’t know what to make of the false teachings in Mormonism, the sweet Lord always does. The passage in Isaiah is rather appropriate today!

General Conference, ‘Catch the Wave,’ April 2013; “…after generations of spiritual darkness, and as predicted by previous prophets,11 Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ restored the Church, its doctrine, and its priesthood authority.

This was Lie #2

What prophets predicted a total apostasy?

Where in the Bible did it say man had ‘priesthood authority’?

Lie #3

Because of that Restoration, knowledge and essential ordinances for salvation and exaltation are again available to all people.12

Knowledge of the ‘essential ordinances’ have never been lost. Where in the Bible does it say they were lost?

Lie #4

Ultimately, that exaltation allows each of us to dwell with our families in the presence of God and Jesus Christ forever!

Exaltation to godhood status completely defies the message of the entire Bible.

Furthermore, Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for man’s sin is the reason we can go to heaven. Salvation has nothing to do with anything we’ve done.

Lie #5

I cannot speak of the Restoration in tempered tones. This fact of history is absolutely stunning! It is incredible! It is breathtaking! How amazing is it that messengers from heaven came to give authority and power to this work?

It’s stunning alright. It’s also incredible we’re able to see prophecies in the Bible written 2,000 years ago, come to fruition in real life. 2 Corinthians 11:13-14 is where the apostle Paul predicted this would happen, and what do you know? He was right!

2 Corinthians 11:13-14; “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”

Lie #14

The Restoration fulfills many biblical prophecies. For example, Isaiah prophesied that the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains.23 The exodus of Mormon pioneers to the mountains of western America is a fulfilling saga of sacrifice and faith.

The Lord’s house on the top of the mountain is located in Jerusalem, not Salt Lake City, Utah.

Lie #15

Old Testament teachings about tithing have been restored.25 As a result, more tithe payers are blessed because of their obedience. References to Melchizedek are clarified by scriptures of the Restoration.26

The teachings about tithing were never lost. Read Acts 5:1-5 for an example of how God had the tithing details under control.

Lie #17

The Restoration also clarifies New Testament scriptures. Its reference to baptism for the dead is now better understood.28” – Russell M. Nelson

Truth: reading the Bible in context reveals a lot of what was going on with the cultures at that time. History books can also clarify what was going on with the cults in Corinth who were trying to interpolate their rituals into the new church.

Please, don’t forget to pray for those who listen to their so-called inspired leaders. The next General Conference is just around the corner where once again, they’ll be exposed to more of the same things we’ve seen today.

Here’s the list of the 22 lies…

Lie #1 –

After His Crucifixion and the death of His Apostles, men changed the Church and its doctrine.

Where is the proof this happened?

What doctrine was changed?

Who changed it?

When did they change it?

Why did they change it?

Lie #2

Then, after generations of spiritual darkness, and as predicted by previous prophets,11 Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ restored the Church, its doctrine, and its priesthood authority.

What prophets predicted a total apostasy?

Where in the Bible did it say man had ‘priesthood authority’?

Lie #3

Knowledge of the ‘essential ordinances’ have never been lost. Where in the Bible does it say they were lost?

Lie #4

Exaltation to godhood status completely defies the message of the entire Bible.

Furthermore, Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for man’s sin is the reason we can go to heaven. Salvation has nothing to do with anything we’ve done.

2 Corinthians 11:13-14; “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”

Lie #6

Our Eternal Father and Jesus Christ made multiple appearances to the Prophet Joseph Smith.13 Under Their direction, other heavenly messengers came, each with a specific purpose.

Wrong. First of all, the Mormon god is not eternal, but progressive. He was once a man. Secondly, God and Jesus did not appear to Joe Smith. The God of the Bible is spirit (John 4:24), and not an exalted, resurrected man. Numbers 23:19. How does one see a spirit?

Lies #7-12

For example:

#7 The angel Moroni revealed the Book of Mormon.14

#8  John the Baptist restored the Aaronic Priesthood.15

#9 Peter, James, and John restored the Melchizedek Priesthood.16

#10 Moses bestowed keys for the gathering of Israel.17

#11 Elias conferred keys of knowledge about Abraham.18

#12 Elijah restored keys of the sealing authority.19

Lie #13

In addition, the Restoration added knowledge that Saints had anciently. The Lord provided a new book of scripture. The Book of Mormon is in full harmony with the Bible.

The BoM plagiarized the Bible, and the BoM contradicts what God has always said in His word. Furthermore, the BoM adds no new information about Jesus that we didn’t already have in the Bible.

Lie #16

Prophecies that the stick of Joseph (the Book of Mormon) and the stick of Judah (the Bible) would be as one in God’s hand have now been fulfilled.27

This is referring to a prophecy in Ezekiel 37:15-17. This prophecy from God through Ezekiel was telling God’s children there would be a re-uniting of the two kingdoms; Judah and Joseph (aka, Ephraim). For more info see article Sticks of Judah and Joseph.

Lie #17

The Restoration also clarifies New Testament scriptures. Its reference to baptism for the dead is now better understood.28 …

Truth: reading the Bible in context reveals a lot of what was going on with the cultures at that time. History books can also clarify what was going on with the cults in Corinth trying to interpolate their rituals into the new church.

Lie #18

John the Revelator’s vision of “another angel [flying] in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth,” foretold the mission of the angel Moroni and the Book of Mormon.30

Truth: the angel flying in the midst of heaven from the book of Revelation hasn’t taken place yet.

Lie #19

The Book of Mormon is the centerpiece of the Restoration. It was written, preserved, and transmitted under the Lord’s direction. It was translated “by the gift and power of God.”31

God is not the author of confusion, therefore, He couldn’t possibly be the one who ‘preserved’ the BoM.

Lie #20

The book of Doctrine and Covenants contains many additional revelations given to the Prophet Joseph Smith. Through him we have received more pages of scripture than we have from any other prophet.

That’s debatable. You should read Marcion for one example.

Lie #21

In what must have been a wistful moment, he said to the Saints in Nauvoo, Illinois, “I never told you I was perfect; but there is no error in the revelations which I have taught.”32

Wistful indeed, and rightly so. People could fill libraries with the amount of information written about Joe Smith’s false prophecies.

Lie #22

The truth will be manifest by the power of the Holy Ghost.33

It’s already been made manifest. And it’s been done so through the workings of the true Holy Spirit of God, not through the imagination of the false god Joe Smith proclaimed.
