Mormon Dilemma 868 Abraham Translation Lies

10 March

mormon-decisions-10Doctrine and Covenants and Church History Study Guide for Home-Study Seminary Students; “The following is a list of commonly asked questions with their accompanying answers about the coming forth of the book of Abraham:

Question: Why did Joseph Smith say he had translated the writings of Abraham even though the manuscripts do not date from Abraham’s time?

Answer: The Prophet Joseph Smith said the book of Abraham was “a translation of some ancient Records that have fallen into our hands, from the Catecombs of Egypt, purporting to be the writings of Abraham, while he was in Egypt” (Times and Seasons, Mar. 1, 1842, 704).”

Exodus 20:3; “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”

Isaiah 31:1; “Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!”

Reading this excerpt from the D&C Student Manual reminds me of the childhood song “The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round”.  Replace the words “wheels on the bus” with “stories of the Church” and it fits.

Joe Smith introduced false gods from Egypt into the sacred Mormon canon with the papyri from the catacombs of Egypt so we’re asking:

What part of this is biblical or of God?

The question of why Smith’s translation doesn’t fit the hieroglyphs found in the PGP is a good question, but the real question that should be asked is why are they there at all?

Mormons are committing the same sins that got Israel into trouble. They were consorting with false gods and spirits. Egypt was a polytheistic society and Judeo-Christianity is not!

Monotheism implies there’s a right way and a wrong way to conduct oneself in life. It provides logic and reason which means there is a purpose to life.

Polytheism represents chaos and confusion. In polytheism or even henotheism everyone is autonomous – kind of like what’s going on in America right now…lest I digress we’re moving on…

Even through the nomadic pastoral periods of Israel’s history, God introduced Himself to the Israelites as the only God they should worship, but for whatever reasons they couldn’t resist the temptations of the Babylonian, Egyptian and Assyrian gods Marduk, Milcom, Ba’al, Ashtoreth, et al.

This caused the United Kingdom of Israel to divide in two and as we see in history led to the disestablishment of Israel altogether. We wrote about Facsimile 2 in the Pearl of Great Price & identified each of the gods in the Book of Abraham and how Joseph mistranslated each of these gods.

Why the Church wants to keep spinning the truth into lies is anyone’s guess.
