Joseph’s Name Will Never Perish

Gospel Doctrine, pg. 479; JOSEPH SMITH’S NAME WILL NEVER PERISH – God lives, and Jesus is the Christ, the Savior of the world. Joseph Smith is a prophet of God—living, not dead; for his name will never perish.

Psalm 103:14-15; For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.  15 As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.

“Gospel Doctrine” is a compilation of writings and teachings of the prophet Joseph F. Smith.  It was originally published in 1919, some 75 years after the death of Joseph Smith, Jr.  Joseph Smith is not living and wasn’t living at the time Gospel Doctrine was written.

Saying that he is living implies he is like God.

Matthew 12: 26-27 “And as touching the dead, that they arise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?
He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.”

If Christ declared that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were alive while he was on the Earth (even before the resurrection) why is it that we cannot say the same of Joseph Smith?
You do err, not knowing the scriptures, for he is a God of the Living, and as he is the God of Joseph Smith, as surely as he is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, then Joseph Smith is alive, as surely as these ancient patriarchs are.
