Mormon Dilemma 302

02 July

How is this Inspired?

3 Nephi 2:4-5; “And thus did pass away the ninety and sixth year; and also the ninety and seventh year; and also the ninety and eighth year; and also the ninety and ninth year; 5 And also an hundred years had passed away…”

4 Nephi 1:6; “And thus did the thirty and eighth year pass away, and also the thirty and ninth, and forty and first, and the forty and second, yea, even until forty and nine years had passed away, and also the fifty and first, and the fifty and second; yea, and even until fifty and nine years had passed away.”

Ps. 119:105-107; “105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. 106 I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments. 107 I am afflicted very much: quicken me, O LORD, according unto thy word.”

In 3rd and 4th Nephi there are 50 verses similar to the ones I’ve listed here. FYI: there are 31 chapters between the two books.

My first thought when reading these verses went to my mother. My mother is an average stay-at-home housewife who’s been a very active Mormon her entire life. While she’s been around non-active members of the Church, the number of non-members around her is few to slim. Her entire world is wrapped around Mormonism yet if she’s read the entire Book of Mormon I’d fall out of my chair.

My mother is the typical Utah Mormon. I don’t share her life to demean or bash her behind her back; rather, I use her life as an example of what it’s like being a Utah Mormon.

I highly doubt she’s come across the verses mentioned here and I doubt she’d be concerned about them if she had.  And this is what hurts me and causes me great concern for her. I’m convinced they are the making of no less than Satan himself.

Sadly, I know from experience that she’s not familiar with the Psalms. This isn’t unusual in Mormonism as I wasn’t either when I left the Church.
