Mormon Dilemma 3

“Jesus was married?!”

That was part of a conversation I had with a temple worthy Mormon just a few months ago.  She explained to me that her son was being taught the LDS doctrine of Jesus being married.  It was the catalyst to bringing them out of the Church and accepting the real Jesus of the Bible.

There are many places of documentation to “prove” to the readers this is truly what the Church teaches.  Here is just one of them:

Journal of Discourses, 4:259-60; “It will be borne in mind that once on a time, there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and on a careful reading of that transaction, it will be discovered that no less a person than Jesus Christ was married on that occasion. If he was never married, his intimacy with Mary and Martha, and the other Mary also whom Jesus loved, must have been highly unbecoming and improper to say the best of it.

I will venture to say that if Jesus Christ were now to pass through the most pious countries in Christendom with a train of women,. such as used to follow him, fondling about him, combing his hair, anointing him with precious ointment, washing his feet with tears, and wiping them with the hair of their heads and unmarried, or even married, he would be mobbed, tarred, and feathered, and rode, not on an ass, but on a rail. What did the old Prophet mean when he said (speaking of Christ), “He shall see his seed, prolong his days, &c.””

There is not one single scripture in all of the Bible that remotely suggests of such a teaching; therefore let us read some of His Divine attributes from Col. 1:15-8;

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.  And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.”

Accepting that Jesus didn’t have to have sex in order to be holy is quite the dilemma for the Mormon.

Show me where in the Bible it states that he wasn’t married.

Simply because he it does not say directly that he was does not mean that he wasn’t. In fact the Bible is rather silent on the whole topic.

It seems to me the greater dilemma is for Christians to accept that Jesus could have had sex and still have been Holy.

Yes, only in false religions like Mormonism do we find sex “mingled” with godhood. Since Jesus is God he had a far greater mission in this life than to just find that special someone and raise a bunch of kids with that person.

He knew who he was and what was going to happen too him. To think that he would be married and sire children is blasphemous. – Melissa Grimes

Shem, the burden of proof is on the Mormon Church. Where in the Bible does it say Jesus was married and a polygamist?

The burden of proof is not on the LDS for the simple fact that we are not trying to prove anything. It is you who is trying to prove something, and thus you have the burden.

Just so you understand, you are trying to prove the LDS church is false. As part of your evidence you use this idea that Christ was married. If this is going to be proof that the LDS church is wrong than you have to show that he wasn’t married, which is my point.

Don’t try to turn things around.

Why is it blasphemous? Show me by the Bible that such a concept is blasphemy.

BTW – let’s look at this again…the Bible’s been around for several hundred years and stands alone.
Joseph Smith comes along and teaches that Jesus had sex, God had sex with Mary his daughter (that’s incest in case you didn’t know) and that Jesus and God are polygamists.
Show us and explain from biblical text in Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic where it says this. The burden of proof is on the church, not God.
