Mormon Dilemma 279

The Way to Heaven

Teachings of the Presidents of the Church, pg 8; “Only the valiant will be exalted and receive the highest degree of glory, hence ‘many are called, but few are chosen.’ (D&C 121:40.) As the Savior put it, ‘. . . strait is the gate, and narrow the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.’ And conversely, ‘. . . wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat.’ (Matt. 7:13, 14.)” – Spencer W. Kimball

Matthew 7:13-15; “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.15 ¶ Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”

Interestingly enough if Mr. Kimball had just read one more verse he may have received the message to watch out for those false teachers like himself or the prophet that initially tricked him, Joseph Smith.

Additionally, his interpretation of that passage is wrong on many levels.  The only way we’ll be accepted into heaven is through the merits of Christ Jesus, not of ourselves or our own doings. Jesus is “the way, the truth and the life” and no one goes to the Father except through Him as He so eloquently told us in John 14:6.
