Mormon Dilemma 260

Sacrament

Evidences and Reconciliations, pg 81; “The Sacrament should be taken with sincere acceptance of all that it means. The partaker should seek to cleanse himself from all evil. Otherwise the expected blessings may not be realized.”

Mormon Doctrine, pg 660; “By partaking of the sacrament, worthy saints renew the covenant previously made by them in the waters of baptism (Mosiah 18:7-10); unbaptized children, being without sin, are entitled and expected to partake of the sacrament to prefigure the covenant they will take upon themselves when they arrive at the years of accountability.”

1 Cor. 11:28-29; “But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.”

So this makes for an interesting dinner topic does it not?  Why are little kids taking the sacrament without knowing or realizing the significance of what they’re doing and why do the Mormons keep contradicting themselves?

Mormon sacrament is like a free for all.  My memories of this are filled with toddlers splashing their little hands into the water cups as it was passed around.

The elements during sacrament meeting are made up of Wonderbread & water.  A prayer is offered over the leavened bread representing Christ’s sinless body, and then little metal trays are passed around with each person partaking as it’s handed to them.  The scene is repeated with the water representing Christ’s shed blood.

Those verses,I Cor 11: 28-29, were always impressed on us while studying to take Communion after the 2-year Confirmation classes. To this day, I always think of these.
