Mormon Dilemma 132

What is the everlasting covenant?

Doctrines of Salvation 1:153; “Keeping the Sabbath day holy is a covenant between man and the Lord…All of the Ten Commandments are everlasting covenants. The law of tithing is a form of an everlasting covenant, the covenant of revenue for the Church…Marriage is an everlasting covenant…The law of marriage to the Church, like the covenant of baptism, is new because it is not the marriage of the world, but for time and for all eternity. Yet this everlasting law of marriage is that which was in the beginning.”

Jeremiah 32:40; “And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.”

Hebrews 8:10; “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people.”

The Greek word for covenant is diatheke (pronounced dee-ath-ay’-kay).  It is properly a disposition or a contract.  In the Hebrew it is beriyth (pronounced ber-eeth’), meaning to cut in two, a compact (because made by passing between pieces of flesh, covenant, league.

And the Hebrew word for everlasting is €oòlaòm  €oòlaòm .  This is what Strong’s gave for its definition; “properly concealed, that is, the vanishing point; generally time out of mind (past or future), that is, (practically) eternity; frequentative adverbially (especially with prepositional prefix) always:—always (-s), ancient (time), any more, continuance, eternal, (for, [n-]) ever (-lasting, -more, of old), lasting, long (time), (of) old (time), perpetual, at any time, (beginning of the) world (+ without end).”

How could the Ten Commandments be an everlasting covenant?  Are the rules in your home a covenant between you and your kid?  Are they able to make a covenant or contract with you?  How is tithing a contract or covenant?

And what is the law of marriage to the Church?  Are you married to Mormonism in heaven?  Where is Jesus in all of this?  Nowhere in the explanation by the prophet Joseph Fielding Smith does he mention Jesus.   Not one time.  How very sad for the Mormon people that they’re married to each other, married to the Church, bound to tithing laws and not Jesus.  Jesus is the Bridegroom to the body of Christ.  We’re not married to the church, He is!

Ephesians 5:25-27; “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.”
