Jesus Died for Man’s Sins

Discourses of Wilford Woodruff, pg. 3; “THE MISSION OF CHRIST. The Savior came and tabernacled in the flesh, and entered upon the duties of the priesthood at thirty years of age. After laboring three and a half years he was crucified and put to death in fulfilment of certain predictions concerning him. He laid down his life as a sacrifice for sin, to redeem the world.”

Hebrews 2:14, 17; “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; 17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.”

So if Jesus died as a sacrifice for our sin then what’s the deal with D&C 19:18 which says he paid for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane?  Why does the LDS Church always have to contradict itself?

I often think of the many ways the LDS Church could reach out to people and affect real change.  They’ve become geniuses at promoting themselves and have been gifted by God with incredible talents via music, intellect, media, etc.  Can you just imagine what would happen if they were preaching truth?

And why couldn’t this prophet of God share just one of the predictions from the Old Testament about the crucifixion of Christ?

Deuteronomy 21:22-23 would be a great place to start!

“And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree: 23 His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.”

Galatians 3:13; “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree.”
