Meaningless Verses in the BoM Don’t Teach of Jesus

16 September

4 Nephi 1:6-7; “And thus did the thirty and eighth year pass away, and also the thirty and ninth, and forty and first, and the forty and second, yea, even until forty and nine years had passed away, and also the fifty and first, and the fifty and second; yea, and even until fifty and nine years had passed away. 7 And the Lord did prosper them exceedingly in the land…”

Psalm 12:6-7; “The words of the Lord are pure words: As silver tried in a furnace of earth,  purified seven times. 7 Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, Thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.”

In the first few years of my Christian life I kept hearing, or reading the same two things. Because Christianity was so fresh and new, the things I learned stuck, and have had a major impact on my walk with Jesus some 24 years later.

1.What did you learn about Jesus from this (eg., what purpose did this lesson serve)?

2.How will you apply this to your personal life?

Today I’m always thinking of those two questions with anything I read, so we’re applying them here as well –

Just how does Joe Smith’s inspired words impact someone’s life with the Lord?

What purpose does that verse serve, and how does it glorify God?

How can someone like my mother apply it to her everyday life?

Our Mormon references today are a good reason why Paul wrote what he did to the Galatians!

Galatians 1:9 “As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.”

Please, remember to pray for those who’ve had to sit through their classes and try to make sense of this!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
