Why so Many Polygamy Contradictions?

26 January

Ephesians 5:31; “For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.”

dc-church-history-semtm Since its inception the Mormon Church has been all over the board on the subject of polygamy. From 1831 when Joseph Smith was secretly practicing polygamy, to the day they publicly denounced it in April 1904, they’ve been a poster child of ambiguity.

As of today, the Church’s curriculum is a menagerie of just such a system. The teacher’s manual for kids in the LDS Seminary program is a classic example of how they purposefully trick students into believing God commanded Smith to practice polygamy, and at the same time teach that polygamy isn’t mandatory. They’ve twisted historical facts to fit their own agenda in a biblical parody. The only one not laughing is God.

Their incessant contradictions is the prime reason they don’t believe the Bible is translated correctly. If they did, scriptures like Ephesians 5:31 wouldn’t be an issue for them!

Here’s one example from their teaching manual –

“Do not speculate about whether plural marriage is a requirement for the celestial kingdom. We have no knowledge that plural marriage will be a requirement for exaltation.” —The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, “LESSON 140: Doctrine and Covenants 132:1-2, 34-66,” Doctrine and Covenants and Church History Seminary Teacher Manual, (2014)

That comment totally contradicts what Brigham Young, and other early church leaders always preached. Furthermore, it’s a clear contradiction to what their own canon declares even today!

Polygamy is Mandatory (click on link for other examples)

Journal of Discourses 11: 269; It is the word of the Lord, and I wish to say to you, and all the world, that if you desire with all your hearts to obtain the blessings which Abraham obtained, you will be polygamists at lest [sic] in your faith, or you will come short of enjoying the salvation and the glory which Abraham has obtained…The only men who become Gods, even the sons of God are those who enter into polygamy. – Brigham Young, August 19, 1866, Salt Lake City

In January 2017 the Introduction for the Doctrine and Covenants Section 132 provides the following declaration –

‘1–6, Exaltation is gained through the new and everlasting covenant… Celestial marriage and a continuation of the family unit enable men to become gods; 21–25 …  58–66, Laws governing plural marriage are set forth.’

Here’s the contradictory text –

D&C 132:4; “For behold, I reveal unto you a new and an everlasting covenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye damned…”

D&C 132:61-62; “…if any man espouse a virgin, and desire to espouse another, and the first give her consent, and if he espouse the second, and they are virgins, and have vowed to no other man, then is he justified; he cannot commit adultery… 62 And if he have ten virgins given unto him by this law, he cannot commit adultery, for they belong to him, and they are given unto him; therefore is he justified.”

Now with the facts being laid out bare for all to see, why would these kids need to speculate about the meaning of exaltation? Evidently, Smith was told by his god the only way to heaven is through polygamy, leaving no room for speculating about anything.

Every Mormon (not just the kids) should be very concerned about the contents in D&C 132. They need to come to terms with D&C 132, and make a huge decision in life.

If they believe in the Mormon god, they need to decide if D&C 132 is still good, and if so, ask themselves why the mainstream LDS Church isn’t following their own mandates.

Of course, another question they should be asking themselves is why they’re worshiping a god who keeps changing his mind. Is this what you want your kids to believe? If it isn’t, then why are you allowing them to attend LDS Seminary?

In the next couple of days, we’ll be looking at another major false teaching in this manual. The lies about why Abraham had an affair with Hagar lends itself to even more confusion in LDS Seminary classrooms…sigh…
