MANY DEAD WILL REJECT GOSPEL

06 June

Conference Report, April 1959, p. 23 “I have no idea in my mind that every soul that has lived upon the face of the earth, who has died and gone to the spirit world, is going to repent and receive the gospel. There will be many that will not do that. Our scriptures point to that fact. They are not going to receive the gospel in the spirit world, when their souls are full of bitterness and hate towards the truth, but they have a right to have it taught to them.” – Joseph Fielding Smith [emp. mine]

Ecclesiastes 9:10; “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.”

The Bible is replete with passages telling us that once you’ve died, there’s nothing else. There is no work beyond the grave, there are no second chances, there’s nothing we can do for ourselves, or others, to gain salvation.

Over the past several days we’ve seen great examples from His word explaining this important lesson. It seems though, that no matter where we turn in LDS theology we find yet another false teacher putting a new spin on it, this time included.

We’re praying Mormons would stop to think about the implications of what Mr. Smith told members. It’s actually something I thought about each time I was baptized for the dead…’what if they don’t accept it…’?

Why would you go to all that trouble when there’s no guarantee?

This is much different than just sharing the gospel with someone! Sharing the gospel doesn’t entail giving 10% of your income. It doesn’t mean you have to subject yourself to the unbiblical practice of being in the presence of unknown spirits. It doesn’t entail multiple baptisms even though His word says there’s only one faith, one baptism…

Ask your Mormon friend if they’ve ever thought about the scenario above. How do they know for sure the person they did this for would be willing – if it were even biblical, that is.

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
