Man’s Glorification in LDS Marriage Covenant

24 June

Colossians 3:23; “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men”.

Doctrine and Covenants 132:4-6; “For behold, I reveal unto you a new and an everlasting covenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye damned; for no one can reject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my glory. 5 For all who will have a blessing at my hands shall abide the law which was appointed for that blessing, and the conditions thereof, as were instituted from before the foundation of the world. 6 And as pertaining to the new and everlasting covenant, it was instituted for the fulness of my glory; and he that receiveth a fulness thereof must and shall abide the law, or he shall be damned, saith the Lord God.”

Hebrews 10:16-18 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. 18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.”

Jeremiah 32:40 “And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.”

In all the historical data of oral tradition, and paper trails of scrolls, there’s no record of the biblical God establishing a polygamy covenant with man.

Consider the following –

Outside of using God’s name, the covenant Mr. Smith introduced has no fingerprint of God, and consists only of man having multiple wives.

It also shows a detachment from God. All relationships in this covenant is focused between man and wife, not God and mankind.

How does having a marital relationship with several partners glorify God?

Specifically, what does this god get out of this?

Is God glorified, or is man, with his many households of wives?

When God established a covenant relationship with man, it always included three important factors.

  1. God’s participation.
  2. Man’s participation.
  3. Blood.

Only one of those three things are present in Smith’s version of a ‘new and everlasting covenant’.
