Love/Hate Relationship Mormons have with God’s Word

02 September

2 Timothy 3:15 “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

Just as a photographer sets a client in the perfect pose for a picture, Mormons are conditioned to think in certain ways to reflect an image of whom they place their trust in for eternal salvation. By and large, that means their prophets. The prophet’s preeminent status is manifested in testimonies of devotion to Joe Smith, and the current living prophet.

You’d think the Bible would make the Saints’ list of what’s most important, considering they call themselves a Christian organization, but such is not the case. The most glaring problem aside from denouncing the Bible, is their ambiguity. This, we believe, is used as a tactic to confuse members, and investigators alike.

Today we’re looking at a handful of examples of what they believe in order to make things clear! Some of these can be found in our Mormon Quotes section, but most of these are new additions.

The problem within this topic is how Mormons peddle the Bible door to door, and before you know it, they’re denouncing God’s Holy, Perfect Word. It’s a classic example of passive-aggressive behavior. In the end, those who lose out are the Mormon people like my mother. It’s devastating to those who are saved, and heartbreaking to Jesus who gave His life for everyone.

Above all things, we pray we bring glory to God, and these will be used to guide the Mormon people into the arms of Christ Jesus,

With Love in Christ;

Michelle

Pro Bible Against the Bible
Discourses of Brigham Young, p. 191 “THE BIBLE. In the Bible are the words of life and salvation. 13:214” – Salt Lake City, July 17, 1870 Joseph Smith Translation, pp. 12-13; “But the Book of Mormon remains secure, unchanged and unchangeable… But with the Bible it was not and is not so…it once was in the sole and exclusive care and custody of an abominable organization, founded by the devil himself, likened prophetically unto a great whore…Where the Bible is concerned, things get a little sticky. Of course we believe it… but there is the reservation about parts not being translated correctly…”
Journal of Discourses 1:238 “I have acknowledged the Bible from the time I could be taught by my parents to revere it. They taught me that it was the sacred word of God. And as far as it could be translated correctly from the Hebrew and Greek languages, it is given to us as pure as it possibly could be given. The Bible is mine, and I am not prepared to have you rob me of it, without my consent.” – Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, July 24, 1853 Gospel Standards, p. 22; “We are not dependent upon the testimony of men who lived many hundreds of years ago. We have the testimony that is given to us from the Prophet Joseph Smith,”
Journal of Discourses 1:244 “…there is the New Testament; you may leave out the Book of Mormon, and the Book of Doctrine and Covenants, and follow the precepts of that book faithfully, and I will warrant you to arrive at salvation…” – Brigham Young, July 24, 1853 Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 319 “There is no salvation between the two lids of the Bible without a legal administrator.” – July 23, 1843
Journal of Discourses 3:116 “…the Bible is good enough just as it is, it will answer my purpose, and it used to answer it very well when I was preaching in the world…” – Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, October 8, 1855 LDS Topics, Bible Inerrancy“Latter-day Saints revere the Bible. They study it and believe it to be the word of God. However, they do not believe the Bible, as it is currently available, is without error. … As the Bible was compiled, organized, translated, and transcribed, many errors entered the text. The existence of such errors becomes apparent when one considers the numerous and often conflicting translations of the Bible in existence today.”
Journal of Discourses 5:91 “This good old Bible, you think we do not believe it: we believe every word of it, and practice it. If we do not, we are determined we will, by the help of God, that portion of it that alludes to us.” – Heber C. Kimball, Great Salt Lake City, July 26, 1857 8th Article of Faith; “We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.”
Journal of Discourses 7:332 “We now see the consistency of the vital truths that the ancient Apostles left recorded for the world to read. We might say that the Bible is a guide-board to the world, as it points out the path for them to walk in: it draws a line to guide their conduct.” – Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, October 8, 1859 Juvenile Instructor, Vol. 27, No. 6, March 15, 1892, p. 173 “You may hug up to yourselves the Bible, but, except through faith in it you get revelation for yourself, the Bible will profit you but little.” Joseph SmithAlso see, Bible Will Profit You Littlefor other locations this is found.
Journal of Discourses 13:174 “I will say that the doctrines taught in the Old and New Testaments concerning the will of God towards His children here on the earth; the history of what He has done for their salvation; the ordinances which He has instituted for their redemption; the gift of His Son and his atonement—all these are true, and we, the Latter-day Saints, believe in them.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, May 29, 1870 History of The Church 6:478 “The scriptures are a mixture of very strange doctrines to the Christian world, who are blindly led by the blind…” – Joseph Smith, June 16, 1844
