LDS to Youth: Associate Only with Like-Minded People

20 October

2 Corinthians 10:5 “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”.

Ensign, ‘The Lighthouse of the Lord: A Message to the Youth of the Church,’ February 2001“…associate with those who, like us, are planning not for temporary convenience, shallow goals, or narrow ambition–but rather with those who value the things that matter most, even eternal objectives. … Let us remember that the wisdom of God may appear as foolishness to men, but the greatest single lesson we can learn in mortality is that when God speaks and we obey, we will always be right. … The writer of the book of Ecclesiastes also wrote… “The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong,” but to those who endure to the end…” – Thomas Monson [emp. mine]

As the title of our article indicates, Monson cheated these precious kids of the truth by attempting to isolate them. He cherry-picked a few Bible verses, added to them, and made it worse by twisting the meanings.

Although our LDS reference today is from 2001, it’s still being recycled in 2018. Info on this speech came courtesy of Melissa, who found it on a pro-Mormon FB page containing various quotes. She sent me an e-mail asking if I’d ever read, or seen the quote, and thought it was very telling.

We’re sickened by what Monson said to these kids (at the time was still an apostle). This speech is awash in heresy, half-truths, and personal interpretation of scripture (something God tells us NOT to do! 2 Peter 1:20-21). Furthermore, his directive isolates the children from society which is what someone who abuses others will do in order to shield them from truth.

We’ve pulled a few biblical terms Mr. Monson used as examples of the confusion he surely created. Tomorrow we’ll be looking at one major thing he said still echoing in the halls of blasphemy, both in and out of the Mormon Church.

The kids who listened to Monson 17 years ago are now raising another generation of Mormon kids, and most certainly are passing on the lies…

[Monson]:

‘…the wisdom of God may appear as foolishness to men…’

1 Cor 1:18 “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”

In the verse above, Monson decided to leave out any reference to the cross. The verse below shows how he lifted part of what King Solomon said, and then added to it at the end.

[Monson]:

‘The writer of the book of Ecclesiastes also wrote… “The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong,” but to those who endure to the end…’

Ecclesiastes 9:11 “I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.”

Pray for Jesus to intervene in the lives of those who heard this false prophet, and those using the quote as ‘inspirational’ today.

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
