LDS Sunday School OT Lesson 40

06 April

old-testament-gospel-doctrine-teachers-manual-355700001The name of this lesson is “Enlarge the Place of Thy Tent” and its purpose is to encourage members to strengthen the stakes of Zion and prepare for the Second Coming and the Millennium”. The lesson is based on Isaiah chapters 54-56 and 63-65.

We’re starting this overview much like we did a few lessons ago with the last question first.  I do this for you to keep it in mind as we glance over their questions. We’ll come back to this in a few minutes. We’re praying that you’ll use it as a witnessing tool when you speak with your Mormon friends and loved ones!

“The Second Coming of the Savior is described in Isaiah 63:1–6. What color will the Savior’s robe be when he comes in his glory? (See Isaiah 63:2Revelation 19:11–13D&C 133:46–48.) What does the red color symbolize? (The blood that he shed when he suffered for our sins in Gethsemane and on the cross.)”

Just like their other lessons they plow through this one without the slightest of cares although they’ve somehow found enough time to remind members their version of scriptures are better than the KJV even though this is what they’ve used for their lesson plan…

A few of the main interests include the following questions that are asked andanswered for members.

What does the tent mentioned in Isaiah 54:2 represent? (The Church of Jesus Christ)

What do tent stakes represent?  Ironically, they want the teacher to hold up a picture of a tee-pee style tent with stakes for a visual. They’re told the stakes represent the counsel from Isaiah to strengthen LDS stakes in the latter days.

In addition to that false teaching they’re told that “enlarging your tent” means to spread the Mormon gospel throughout the earth.

They’ve been told they can take refuge in the word of the Lord in Isaiah 55, but they don’t believe this at all.  Isaiah 55:11 says;

“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

For the passages of Isaiah 63-65 they touch on what the Millennium will be like with no more tears or enmity.  Not sure why they’d believe this since they don’t believe the Bible has been translated correctly, alas; they continue to give out a false hope to members with nothing to base this on.

Remember the question at the beginning of this lesson? That question is the very last thing asked in the lesson with no instruction or further reference on what it means.

They erroneously listed their false teaching the red color of the Savior’s robe represented Jesus’ blood that he shed for our sins in the Garden of Eden and the cross, yet there was virtually no other reference made to it.

There was no reference to the dimensions of the tabernacle or tent God instructed Moses and the Israelites to construct and no mention of the symbolic reference of what it or the stakes actually meant.

I wonder why.  Why do they bother using the Bible and why bother with talking about the shed blood of Jesus when they can’t even get one thing right.

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
