LDS: Jesus Advocated Decapitation

08 January

Journal of Discourses 7:20 “These are my views, and the Lord knows that I believe in the principles of sanctification; and when I am guilty of seducing any man’s wife, or any woman in God’s world, I say sever my head from my body. These have ever been my feelings from the days of my youth. This is my character, and the character of President Brigham Young. It was the character of Joseph Smith and of Jesus Christ; and that is the character of the Apostles of Jesus, and that must be sustained by this people.” — Heber C. Kimball, Great Salt Lake City, July 16, 1854

1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Mr. Kimball was mighty brave for declaring his thoughts on this topic. After all, he was the husband of 45 wives.

There’s nothing in the Bible supporting his ill conceived views on adultery. Likewise, there’s nothing in the Bible suggesting it’s okay to have 45 wives. You can read our short bio on Mr. Kimball’s life in our series Polygamy & Mormon Church Leaders.

Please pray for this man’s descendants, and all Mormons who believe this is okay. The schools I attended in Utah had numerous kids who claimed to be related to this man.

I’m still of the opinion many don’t stop to think of what the real life scenario looked like. They claim to be of a certain lineage, but don’t think about the ramifications of what this lifestyle truly entails. Many won’t do the homework to find out 16 of his wives divorced him, or that he was guilty of desertion several times over for the inability to take care of everyone. In the end he not only had that many wives, but he was also the father of 65.

He served as an apostle of the Church, and gave his daughter Helen to Joseph Smith as a wife to buy the family’s salvation. He’s also well known for saying ‘I think no more of taking another wife than I do of buying a cow’.

With a track record like this, are his words trustworthy?

If you’re LDS, do you believe Jesus would really say something like this?

Where in God’s word is there a similar statement showing this is the Lord’s m.o.?

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
