LDS Church Teaches Missionaries to Speak in ‘Adult Language’

28 June

The talk we’re looking at today has to be one of the strangest I’ve seen in awhile. For the sake of brevity, I’ve pulled a few quotes to compare w/ God’s word.

Church News, 2019 Mission Leadership Seminar

The Book of Mormon is the most powerful written witness in existence that Jesus is the Christ…said D. Todd Christofferson…on Sunday, the opening day of the 2019 Mission Leadership Seminar.

This is obviously a lie. The Bible gives us everything we need to know for salvation and have a life here filled with His Spirit.

Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”

Yet too few of the Church’s missionaries, he noted, routinely teach from the scriptures. They often cite personal experiences, anecdotes or object lessons to explain gospel principles. Such techniques lack the “power of conviction” that comes from the scriptures. …

It’d be difficult to teach from something that contradicts itself, is sleepy, and plagiarizes the Bible.

“Of course, I am not saying that missionaries cannot use their own words in teaching,” he said. “We expect them to do that. We even teach them to speak in adult language and present themselves as mature and thoughtful advocates of the gospel message. … [emp. mine]

I’ve taught numerous classes at churches where missionaries go to Utah for witnessing. Not one time have I ever had to teach anyone to ‘speak in adult language’.

Besides all that, what is ‘adult language’?

The Book of Mormon is the most essential element of conversion, testified Elder Christofferson. It provides powerful evidence of the divinity of Christ and the Restoration of the gospel through Joseph Smith.

Actually, the Bible tells the truth and isn’t confusing. Moreover, the BoM has no definitive info on Joe Smith and the ‘restoration’.

Psalm 19:7 “The law of the LORD [is] perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD [is] sure, making wise the simple.”

He utilized a video clip of President Russell M. Nelson declaring that the Book of Mormon provides the “fullest and most authoritative understanding of the Atonement of Jesus Christ” to be found anywhere…

How could it do that when it’s missing key elements of historical reasons of why God sent His Son? There’s no mention of any festivals, or how Israelites should sacrifice and when. Besides that, Nelson’s the one that said the BoM shouldn’t be considered historical, but used only as a feel good tool.

For missionaries worldwide, said Elder Christofferson, there is just one overarching thing they ask their investigators to do: read and pray about the Book of Mormon. If investigators do that one thing — with sincerity, faith and real intent — everything else follows.

That’s only true if you agree with them. If you disagree all bets are off.

“God bless us all to know and love and use the Book of Mormon as God intended.”

These men are truly grasping at straws. They’re coming down hard on missions leaders who can’t produce the numbers needed to keep the Church viable. We already know they can’t produce the truth…

Pray for those leaders who attended this seminar to stop and think about the thing Mr. Christofferson said, and then turn to Jesus!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
