Joseph Smith’s 2 False Prophecies in 1 Day

26 April

TodayinMormonHistory“175 years ago today – Apr 6, 1843 –Three days after William Miller’s predicted advent, Joseph reiterated the “eighty-five years old” prophecy and promised that, “There are those of the rising generation who shall not taste death till Christ comes. …  I prophecy in the name of the Lord God, and let it be written, that the Son of Man will not come in the heavens till I am 85 years old, 48 years hence or about 1890.”  Joseph then indulged in calculations based on biblical prophecy, referring ambiguously to the beginning of the “hour of his judgement” and figuring that if a day with God is 1,000 years, then an hour with God is “41 years, 8 months …”” – Rick Grunder, Mormon Parallels: A Bibliographic Source

2 Peter 2:1; “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.”

Joe Smith couldn’t seem to get enough attention for himself in life. On the very day he told people they’d live to see Jesus’ return, he also offered insight to a biblical prophecy…

Ask the Mormon in your life what they think of this, and if Smith’s flagrant, non-stop, false prophecies give them any cause for concern. Most importantly, pray with and for them!

With Love in Christ;
