Joseph and Jesus Equally Called of God

John 10:30; “I and my Father are one”.

salt lake mormon temple 2 Journal of Discourses 23:360; “Some might think it strange that a man like Joseph, so gifted of the Lord, should deem it necessary to be administered to by a man or men holding the holy Priesthood, in order to receive the Holy Ghost. But it is upon the same principle that the Son of God had to be baptized in order to fulfill all righteousness; and yet He was a pure and holy being. …

… In like manner it was as necessary that Joseph should be baptized, and have hands laid upon him for the reception of the Holy Ghost—for there is no doubt in my mind that Joseph Smith was called just as the Son of God, our Lord and Redeemer was called, before the foundation of the earth, as Jeremiah in his record says he was— …” – George Q. Colossians 2:9; “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”

John 8:24 “I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.”

Matthew 4:10 “Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”

Hebrews 1:6 “And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.”

While it’s difficult to understand why some would reject our Lord, this is what happens whenever we place anything, or anyone, as a priority in front of Him. In our LDS reference today, it’s very apparent Joe Smith is the main focal point in the way they’ve exalted him to being on the same level as the Messiah. Their statements have brought to mind a few questions for us!

  • Did the Mormon Jesus hold the Melchizedek and Aaronic priesthoods?
  • Why is Joseph Smith elevated to be equal with Jesus?
  • Are they saying Jesus received the Holy Ghost when He was baptized?
  • They’ve implied that Jesus was ordained. What was He ordained into, and why?

The four bible verses above leaves no doubt Jesus is God. Why don’t Mormons believe this?
