Jon Huntsman and the White House

Another Mormon Running for POTUS

Jon Huntsman threw his hat into the ever widening ring of Republicans that are running for President of the United States of America.

Huntsman was born to a prestigious Mormon family and just so happens to be a third cousin to Mitt Romney who is also running for President.  It’s almost like a family reunion of the Parley Parker Pratt descendants.  Mr. Huntsman’s father is a billionaire and philanthropist while his mother is the daughter of Mormon Church apostle David Haight and he’s also the great-great-great grandson of Parley P. Pratt.  For those who aren’t familiar with Parley P. Pratt, he was Joseph Smith’s right hand man and Mormon apostle until his murder in 1857.  He was murdered by the jealous legal husband of Parley’s 12th wife, Eleanor.

Jon Huntsman dropped out of high school and then earned his G.E.D. before going onto college at the University of Utah and the University of Pennsylvania.

No doubt this guy is smart, but once again we’re bringing up the subject of his view on God which we believe is worthy of investigation.  If anyone is going to run for president we want to know what goes on in his life other than just the degree he got at university.

If someone believes they can become a god and their main devotion in life goes towards their church’s dogma, how does his outlook affect your personal life?  Being a good businessman isn’t the only thing that would warrant a yes vote from me.  I want someone in the White House whose personal and spiritual integrity is above board.  I want for them to live for God first and serve Him in the capacity of that public office.

I spent 30 years as a member of the Mormon Church and I have to tell you that I looked at life a lot differently than I do now.

I was a Mormon first, then an American, a wife, mom, daughter, friend; all in that order.  My identity as a Mormon came before everything else.

One of my views about life was radically different from that of my Mormon heritage’s point of view and that was on abortion.  I just never understood the ambiguous outlook of the Church’s stance on it.

Mormons certainly have an interesting view on this subject matter and to be fair I want to be sure we give the official Mormon response to it so here it is:

Ensign, November 1998, pg. 71; Abortion is an ugly thing, a debasing thing, a thing which inevitably brings remorse and sorrow and regret…While we denounce it, we make allowance in such circumstances as when pregnancy is the result of incest or rape, when the life or health of the mother is judged by competent medical authority to be in serious jeopardy, or when the fetus is known by competent medical authority to have serious defects that will not allow the baby to survive beyond birth.” – Mormon Prophet Gordon Hinckley

So the question is:  do you believe abortion is okay or not?

In our article about Mitt Romney running for president we asked the question; would you vote for a Mormon.  This time around we’re asking a handful of questions.
