Jesus the Polygamist

Romans 8:5; “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.”

Mormon Jesus 3How many times each day are we living ‘according to the flesh’? Do you stop to think about every action, and thought, you have on any given day? I know over the years I’ve become more alert to my reactions and even thoughts, to peripheral events around me. Our verse above gave me pause the other day when I came across the section of Pratt’s book.

Looking over many of the doctrines in Mormon canon, I was struck by the numerous times this phrase (according to the flesh) presented itself, so today we’re taking a look at just one example of how the Church has used it. I have to wonder if any of the Mormon people pick up on what Paul said in Romans…

As a heads up – this excerpt today is rather offensive. If you have a disposition that can’t stomach strong heresy,  you might want to stop reading at this point.

The Seer, Vol. 1, No. 11, November 1853, pp. 172-173; “From the passage in the forty fifth Psalm, it will be seen that the great Messiah who was the founder of the Christian religion, was a Polygamist, as well as the Patriarch Jacob and the prophet David from whom He descended according to the flesh.

Paul says concerning Jesus, “Verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.” (Heb. 2:16.) Abraham, the Polygamist, being a friend of God, the Messiah chose to take upon himself his seed; and by marrying many honorable wives himself, show to all future generations that he approbated the plurality of Wives under the dispensations in which His Polygamist ancestors lived.

We have now clearly shown that God the Father had a plurality of wives, one or more being in eternity, by whom He begat our spirits as well as the spirit of Jesus His First Born, and another being upon the earth by whom He begat the tabernacle of Jesus, as His Only Begotten in this world. [this is in reference to God having sex with his daughter Mary]

We have also proved most clearly that the Son followed the example of his Father, and became the great Bridegroom to whom kings’, daughters and many honorable Wives were to be married. We have also proved that both God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ inherit their wives in eternity as well as in time; and that God the Father has already begotten many thousand millions of sons and daughters and sent them into this world to take tabernacles; and that God the Son has the promise that “of the increase of his government there shall be no end:” it being expressly declared that the children of one of His Queens should be made Princes in all the earth. (See Psalm 45:16.)…

If you do not want your morals corrupted, and your delicate ears shocked, and your pious modesty put to the blush by the society of polygamists and their wives, do not venture near the holy Jerusalem, nor come near the New Earth; for Polygamists will be honored there, and will be among the chief rulers in that Kingdom.” – Orson Pratt [emp. mine]

As I read through this, I kept wondering…what are the chances the repeated appearance of this phrase (according to the flesh) is just a fluke? Is it a sign of Satan mocking God, or a sign from God telling us there’s something seriously wrong? Could it be both? … What do you think?

Whatever the case may be, the Bible repeatedly says following the flesh always produces the same results. It’s violating the moral laws of God. To live righteously, we must crucify our fleshy desires. A sign you’re not an activefollower of Christ is found when we don’t do this –

Galatians 5:24; “Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”

The preceding excerpt from Pratt’s collection of sermons provides an inside look at the priorities of those in Mormonism. The Mormon people can say they’ve abandoned polygamy, however, their canon proves this to be a red herring. As of today (2016), the Church is still involved with it by repackaging it.

Bequeathing the ritual with a new title gave the Church a new false idiom in their effort to hide truth, which is what they’ve done with many of other doctrines.

Today their not-so-new ritual is known as Celestial Polygamy, is practiced inside the thick 12’ walls of every Mormon temple. If the Church had truly tossed the ideology of polygamy aside, it wouldn’t still be encased in their canon, some 112 years after denouncing it.

Keep in mind, none of this heresy includes their misinterpretation of scripture (Psalm 45)!

Lastly, Pratt’s derogatory comment towards Christianity was another way they’ve chipped away at the credibility of Jesus’ Bride, the body of Christ. They seem to never miss an opportunity to exhibit their hatred for Christians.
