If Joseph Smith was Right, Jesus Lied

20 May

“He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” Matthew 28:6

Have you ever wondered what part/parts, of the Bible Mormons would need to toss if Joe Smith’s claims were true? According to his theory the entire world had abandoned the One True God of the Bible. We see the claim of a fourteen year old kid in the following declaration –

Joseph Smith-History: 1:18-19 “My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. … 19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me…””

Before we take Smith’s word for this shocking turn of Christian events, consider the following statements of Jesus. The first one listed below has always been of great comfort to all Christians. Smith’s claim would mean Jesus didn’t pray for us —

John 17:20 “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word.”

It’d also mean He didn’t really promise any of the following –

Mark 13:31 “Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.”

Matthew 16:18 “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

If those aren’t true, neither are any of following scriptures ~

John 14:16 “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever”.

John 14:26 “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

John 16:13 “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”

In turn, this would also mean Jesus lied to His disciples at Pentecost when He told them to wait for God’s Holy Spirit —

Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

We’d also have to toss Peter’s reminder that God’s word lives forever when he quoted the Old Testament —

1 Peter 1:23 “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever.”

Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: But the word of our God shall stand for ever.”

As a quick review, would you toss the first scripture telling us about Jesus’ resurrection? What about the promise Jesus prayed for all of us in His High Priestly Prayer?

Oh beloved, if the claim of this fourteen year old kid is correct we’d have to forsake all of the Bible which essentially means forsaking Jesus as well.

Whether or not they realize it, Mormons are doing the same thing the Pharisees and others did during Jesus’ day. They questioned Him at every turn. Matthew 13:54-58. Simply put, they’ve rejected their namesake.

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
