Hinckley Proved You Can’t Trust Mormonism

03 August

Gordon B. Hinckley boldly proclaimed none else but God Almighty came down to earth and told Joe Smith all of Christianity was wrong. He also asserted the entire church rests itself on the validity of this ‘glorious first vision’. It’s a dismal outlook on life if this is what the Church is banking on. His claim gives investigators many reasons to reject their church. There’s no less than eleven different versions of the first vision.

Why don’t they set their validity on Jesus?

General Conference, ‘What are People Asking about Us?,’ October 1998; “Our entire case as members of TheGordonBHinckley Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, rests on the validity of this glorious First Vision” (Also see Church News, Oct.
10, 1998, p.17).

The problem? It contradicts Brigham Young who made the following claim –

Journal of Discourses 2:171; “…he [God] did not adopt their interpretation of the Holy Scriptures. The Lord did not come with the armies of heaven, in power and great glory…But He did send His angel to this same obscure person, Joseph Smith, Jun., who afterwards became a Prophet, Seer, and Revelator, and informed him that he should not join any of the religious sects of the day, for they were all wrong; that they were following the precepts of men instead of the Lord Jesus; that He had a work for him to perform, inasmuch as he should prove faithful before Him.” – Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, Feb. 18, 1855 [emp. mine]

Galatians 1:6-8 “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”

Our question today:

What does the Church stand on now?
