General Conference First Presidency Message October 2015

dieter uchtdorfFIRST PRESIDENCY MESSAGE, ‘Finish with Your Torch Still Lit,’ October 2015;

“… …The Light That Never Dies

Sometimes after stumbling, failing, or even giving up, we get discouraged and believe our light has gone out and our race is lost. But I testify that the Light of Christ cannot be extinguished. It shines in the darkest night and will relight our hearts if only we incline our hearts to Him (see 1 Kings 8:58).

No matter how often or how far we fall, the Light of Christ ever burns brightly. And even in the deepest night, if we but step toward Him, His light will consume the shadows and reignite our souls…

For the torch is not about us or about what we do.

It is about the Savior of the world.

And that is a Light that can never be dimmed. It is a Light that swallows the darkness, heals our wounds, and blazes even in the midst of the deepest sorrow and unfathomable darkness.

It is a Light that surpasses understanding.

May each of us finish the path we have begun. And with the help of our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, we will finish joyfully and with our torches still lit.” – Dieter F. Uchtdorf

John 14:16-18; “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”

This is another one of those times where I feel very sad for the person whose mouth is uttering the falsehoods, while at the same time angry he has such a vast platform from which to lie. Why don’t they just tell their members the truth?

This man’s message is so confusing! He tells everyone the light doesn’t go out, but by the end he’s giving a pep-talk on how to keep this mysterious light lit. Yikes!

There are two issues going on here so let’s take a look at the lies –

  1. The majority of Mormons have heard and understand the term ‘light of Christ. Mormons have always taught the ‘light of Christ’ is the Mormon Holy Ghost.

Why does Mr. Uchtdorf sound as if he’s hedging around their ‘rock-solid’ teachings?

In their manual, Preach My Gospel, they’re reminded of how important it is to know the Light of Christ already exists inside each person that’s ever been born. The link we’ve included here gives a short description explaining the role of the Mormon Holy Ghost.

2.At the beginning of his talk Mr. Uchtdorf stated nothing could extinguish the ‘light’ they believe is inside of each person, yet at the end he commented ‘with the help of our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, we will finish joyfully, and with our torches still lit’.

Question:

If that light couldn’t be extinguished then why do they need to hope, or pray, they finish the race with a lit torch?
