The Gates of Hell Haven’t Prevailed!

13 January

Matthew 16:18; “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

germany-950-adOn your way to work today, how many Christian churches did you drive past?

When you went to church last week, did you remember to thank Him for each miracle you just witnessed?

Each time any of us sees another Christian, do we think of Jesus first, then give thanks for the miracle He performed? A church building alone stands as a testament to what He’s done, not to mention the people filling its pews!

Dear sweet Jesus told us in Matthew 16:18 the ‘gates of hell would not prevail’ against His church, yet it’s easy for us to take His words for granted (myself included). Not only do we live in a country that affords us the freedom to worship Him, we also have the freedom to either accept, or reject, what our Bibles tell us.

Joseph Smith had the very freedom we enjoy today, and instead of just accepting, or even rejecting God’s perfect word, Smith maligned, and wrote his own version of it. The following is one of Smith’s revelations from 1831. In it you’ll see what he had to say about Jesus’ miracle, and the promise God Almighty made to all of us –

D&C 1:30; “And also those to whom these commandments were given, might have power to lay the foundation of this church, and to bring it forth out of obscurity and out of darkness, the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth…”

If we are to believe in the Lord Jesus as our personal Savior, wouldn’t we believe in the words He spoke to His apostles?

Wouldn’t we trust He’s telling us the truth in Matthew 16:18?

If there was a chance He could be wrong, could we believe anything Jesus said?

Furthermore, why should you believe in the new god Smith promoted when all he did was plagiarize the promises of Jesus?

After performing a word search, we found eleven verses where Smith had plagiarized the Bible with the phrase, ‘the gates of hell’. For the sake of brevity, we’ve listed one verse to use as an example. Links are provided for all others.

2 Nephi 4:32

3 Nephi 11:39-40

3 Nephi 18:13

D&C 10:69

D&C 17:8

D&C 18:5

D&C 21:6

D&C 33:13; “And upon this rock I will build my church; yea, upon this rock ye are built, and if ye continue, the gates of hell shall not prevail against you.”

D&C 98:22

D&C 128:10

If Jesus’ promise was wrong, there’s a good chance Smith’s god could be wrong as well seeing as how he plagiarized the Bible. One of the two was lying, the other was telling the truth – given the nature of the subject matter, they both can’t be right.

Whom do you believe?

Finally, beloved, ask the Mormon why Smith would plagiarize something he denounced…

Note: The Christian church pictured above is located just outside Wittenberg, Germany, and built c. 950 AD. PTL! We took the picture 12/2009.
