“And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.” Luke 21:8
With the heavy emphasis of going back to the basics promoted by the Mormon prophet Russell Nelson, we thought it’d be a good reminder for members of the Church to think about whom, or what it is they’re worshiping.
The Church is a poster child for publishing propaganda, and our topic today is a small example of their prolific works.
The following is an updated version of an article we wrote in 2014 ~
“The Fullness of the Gospel” “The Book of Mormon contains the most lucid and complete explanation of the atonement of Christ and therefore clearly qualifies as containing the fulness of the gospel. Of particular importance in explaining the atonement are chapters 2 and 9 of 2 Nephi, Mosiah 15, and chapters 34 and 42 of Alma.” – John A. Tvedtnes [emp. mine]
D&C 20:9 “Which contains a record of a fallen people, and the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles and to the Jews also”. – Summer 1829 [emp. mine]
D&C 27:5 “Behold, this is wisdom in me; wherefore, marvel not, for the hour cometh that I will drink of the fruit of the vine with you on the earth, and with Moroni, whom I have sent unto you to reveal the Book of Mormon, containing the fulness of my everlasting gospel, to whom I have committed the keys of the record of the stick of Ephraim”. – August 1830 [emp. mine]
D&C 42:12 “And again, the elders, priests and teachers of this church shall teach the principles of my gospel, which are in the Bible and the Book of Mormon, in the which is the fulness of the gospel.” – February 9, 1831 [emp. mine]
D&C 135:3 “Joseph Smith…has sent the fulness of the everlasting gospel, which it contained, to the four quarters of the earth…” – June 27, 1844 [emp. mine]
Joseph Smith History 1:34 “He said there was a book deposited, written upon gold plates, giving an account of the former inhabitants of this continent, and the source from whence they sprang. He also said that the fulness of the everlasting Gospel was contained in it, as delivered by the Savior to the ancient inhabitants”. [emp. mine]
Galatians 1:9 “As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.” [emp. mine]
If the Book of Mormon contains the “fullness of the everlasting gospel” why do they have additional works such as the Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price?
If the Book of Mormon contains the “fullness of the everlasting gospel”, why does it denounce polygamy in the book of Jacob?
If the Book of Mormon contains the “fullness of the everlasting gospel”, why didn’t it include the 1978 revelation allowing blacks into the priesthood?
If the BoM does contain the ‘fulness of the gospel’, why isn’t there any mention of the Passover, or any of the other feasts and festivals?
If the BoM contains the ‘fulness of the gospel’, why isn’t plural marriage, families are forever, baptisms for the dead, temple weddings, temple recommends, mandatory 10% of gross income for tithing, or sealings mentioned?
Why are these things only mentioned in Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price and the latest edition of the Ensign? Also see our Thought of the Day about Mormonism here.
I appreciated what Michael Davis, PhD, had to say about all this. He’s written articles for LeaderRU.com, and stated ‘Moroni 10:3-5 is a trick’.
Share the truth with a Mormon you know!
With Love in Christ;
