False Prophecies of Joseph Smith

David Hyrum Smith to be King of Israel

History of the Church 6:253; “Although David was a king, he never did obtain the spirit and power of Elijah and the fullness of the Priesthood; and the Priesthood that he received, and the throne and kingdom of David is to be taken from him and given to another by the name of David in the last days, raised up out of his lineage.”

Prophecy recorded March 10, 1844.

This prophecy by Smith was given when he told a number of people the child Emma was expecting would be the king of Israel. When the child was born they named him David, but as it turned out David Smith never did succeed him.

There were many meetings, discussions and not to mention deep concerns over this prophecy. People had been under the assumption that Smith’s namesake would take his place, but as you read the many personal journals of those involved it became clear they had accepted that David was favored over his elder brother Joseph.

The prophet Joseph also prophesied and taught that couples who had children after they’d been sealed in the temple would bless the oldest son after the sealing with the covenant of the father. This promise and covenant therefore fell upon the shoulders of David

In fact David died at age 60 in 1904 spending the last 27 years in an insane asylum.  David was born about five months after the death of his father Joseph in June 1844.
