Everyone Righteous in America Before Flood

03 August

Journal of Discourses 12:338 “It was here where Enoch preached and published glad tidings of great joy; it was on this land—the American Continent—where he gathered the people from many nations, and built up a city and called it Zion. It was here where the people of God flourished before the flood, and were of one heart and one mind, having an experience of some three hundred and sixty-five years in order to bring about a sufficient degree of righteousness and faith to be taken away from here and translated to some other region.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, December 27, 1868

Hmmm…I don’t think so. Here’s what our Lord has to say about this!

Genesis 6:5-712 “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. 12

And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.”

As a reminder, this is the 2nd part of our post from yesterday!

If the people were so righteous, why did God say otherwise? Moreover, where in the Bible does it hint at such a thing?

Teachings like Orson Pratt’s are how people are led away from God, not to Him. His imagination was as bad as Smith’s. As you share these fallacious doctrines with the Mormon  you know, be sure to use it as a teaching moment.

Remember the valuable instruction of Dr. Walter Martin who said, ‘Always use demonstrative evidence, never experiential reasoning’. Use a Bible, concordance, and even your favorite online bible chronology chart.

If you’re LDS, please know that we’re praying for you and hope you’ll open your Bible to see how God doesn’t operate in the manner Mr. Pratt suggested.

With Love in Christ;
