Egyptian Plague Remains Unnoticed in LDS Canon

05 July

Abraham 2:21, 25; “And I, Abraham, journeyed, going on still towards the south; and there was a continuation of a famine in the land; and I, Abraham, concluded to go down into Egypt, to sojourn there, for the famine became very grievous. 25 Now the first government of Egypt was established by Pharaoh, the eldest son of Egyptus, the daughter of Ham…”

Genesis 12:15; “The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.”

Everyone knows the story of Moses and the ten plagues of Egypt. The seldom heard of disease many overlook is the misinformation plaguing Mormon canon about Egypt.

The transliteration for the Hebrew word pharaoh is parʿōh. It’s defined in Strong’s as ‘a generic title of Egyptian kings’.

It’s described as an Egyptian word that Hebrews pronounced as par’oh, and later translated into Latin, and then Greek. A person with the title of pharaoh signified he was the supreme ruler of both Upper and Lower Egypt, and was a representation of all the gods of Egypt. In essence, the word pharaoh is the designation of the royal residence of the king.

Aside from the issue of Smith thinking ‘Pharaoh’ was the name of this character, there’s also an issue with timing.

At the time of Abraham, there was no such thing as the priesthood in the sense Smith was trying to portray. Neither was there the idea the Egyptian pharaoh was a righteous man, as the text claimed in Abraham 1:26.

In addition to all those problems, there’s still one left that is HUGE!

The text in Abraham tells of how God tells Abraham to LIE to the pharaoh and tell him that Sarah was Abraham’s sister. However, the Bible tells us just the opposite! The Bible tells us that Abraham lied all on his own volition.

Pray for those who’ve been tricked by this awful lie that God would loosen the ties that hold them captive!
