Divinity of Joseph Smith Indicated by Perfect Church

18 January

Journal of Discourses 26:279-280;“One of the most striking points of difference between the religion of the Latter-day Saints and that of other people is our belief in revelation. We not only believe that the Lord did in ancient days reveal Himself to man, but we accept the doctrine of revelation as necessary for the guidance of the Church to-day; that the same Lord who so signally blessed and sustained His people anciently can bestow similar blessings in our day…

To do away with revelation would be to refuse to recognize the Author of our faith as our guide and teacher. Who can find out the things of God except he is taught either of the Almighty Himself, or those who are taught of Him?

It is a matter of utter impossibility for man through his own wisdom to either find out God, or to act in the things of God, without first having been taught and authorized so to do. …

we have declared the fact that present revelation was and is essential for the guidance of man, and that the Church of Christ never did or could exist without it, and that the Lord had again revealed Himself to man, our hearers would generally either turn aside… ” – John Henry Smith, Salt Lake City, July 27, 1885

Micah 6:8; “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”

Hebrews 1:1-2; “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds”.

There’s a couple of things to take note of in today’s Mormon reference.

1.The title of this article was the way a category in the Journal of Discourses was indexed. We found it interesting how they assumed Smith was divine simply because he came up with a new religion. How did this make him divine?

2.How did God once again reveal Himself to man if the Church never existed before then? The word ‘again’ means ‘another time, or once more’.

3.It’s much easier to skip over scriptures like that found in Hebrews 1:1-2, or Jeremiah 31:33 (when God said He would write His law on our hearts) when you declare the Bible isn’t trustworthy.

This teaching went out over 130 yrs ago, but it’s still true even today. Pray for all Mormons who are still trapped by the lies of these men!

One more thing…Mormonism is far from perfect.

With Love in Christ;
