Diluting Jesus’ Blood

25 June

Cross 1 Cor 1 18D&C 76:52; “That by keeping the commandments they might be washed and cleansed from all their sins, and receive the Holy Spirit by the laying on of the hands of him who is ordained and sealed unto this power.”

Today we’re examining how the LDS Church handles the blood of Christ. The foregoing Mormon scripture is anything but promising to those looking for a Redeemer.

If/when you bring this verse to a Mormon’s attention, they tend to bring up other LDS scriptures that cast a favorable light on in their defense. By and large, however, their tactics are disingenuous. See Alma 7:14, D&C 76:41, and Moses 6:59, for examples of their ambiguity.

True Mormonism wraps itself up in aesthetically pleasing mandates, while inwardly they strangle any chance at salvation offered through the real Jesus of the Bible. For the record, Mormons don’t have a problem with the subject of shedding blood, just as long as it’s their own. The issue is that they want the credit for it. The blood of Jesus won’t ever be enough and in a sense, they’ve become the true poster child of passive-aggressive behavior.

Not only are their doctrines corrupt with a false gospel, even their actions are as well. You can see this in their weekly participation of ‘sacrament’, aka communion. They don’t serve grape juice and unleavened bread. Rather, the LDS Church serves Wonder Bread and water which is another sign they’ve diluted the blood of Christ.

The following verses are a portion of what things they’ve rejected by rejecting the blood of Jesus:

Salvation and justification

Romans 5:9; ‘Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. ’

Redemption and forgiveness

Ephesians 1:7; ‘In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.’

Fellowship with Other Christians

1 John 1:7; ‘But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.’

Reconciliation with Heavenly Father

1 John 2:2; “And he is the propitiation for our sins…’

Opportunity to live righteously

1 Peter 2:24; ‘Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.’

Jesus’ authority

Hebrews 1:3; “Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins…’

Confidence to approach God personally

Hebrews 10:19; ‘Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus.’

Jesus’ blood

Hebrews 13:12; ‘Therefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.’

Jesus’ love

Revelation 1:5; ‘…Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood…’

Freedom from the gods of our fathers

Revelation 5:9; ‘…hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation…’

Washing of our robes

Revelation 7:14; ‘…These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.’

Two comments by LDS leaders that have further diluted the cleansing power of Christ’s blood are listed below. For other examples see our ‘Blood Atonement’ category  –

Doctrines of Salvation 1:135-136; “Joseph Smith taught that there were certain sins so grievous that man may commit, that they will place the transgressors beyond the power of the atonement of Christ. If these offenses are committed, then the blood of Christ will not cleanse them from their sins even though they repent. Therefore their only hope is to have their own blood shed to atone, as far as possible, in their behalf. This is scriptural doctrine, and is taught in all the standard works of the Church.” –  Joseph Fielding Smith

Mormon Doctrine, p. 93; “Man may commit certain grievous sins–according to his light and knowledge–that will place him beyond the reach of the atoning blood of Christ. If then he would be save he must make sacrifice of his own life to atone– so far as in his power lies — for that sin, for the blood of Christ alone under certain circumstances will not avail.” – Bruce R. McConkie

We post these things not out of animosity, rather, we do this out of love. We pray for the Mormon people every day and hope they will come to a saving knowledge of Christ our Lord, who without hesitancy, spilt His blood for us!
