Death of Joseph Smith Brought Calamities to US

12 June

Journal of Discourses 12:121 “…this class of men are now seeking to denude the Constitution of the United States of all its protective and saving powers.

Why all this? They killed the Prophet. The mob that collected at Carthage, Illinois, to commit that deed of blood contained a delegation representing every State in the Union. Each has received its blood stain. … …said they, “we will not hearken to the counsels of this man;” for, like the Jews of old, they were afraid if they let him live he would take away their place and nation. … If they had hearkened to the counsel of Joseph Smith, this nation would have had no wars; there would have been no division in the Government, but it would have gone on in harmony and prosperity…” – Brigham Young, Toole City, August 17, 1867

Jeremiah 14:14 “Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.”

At the time Mr. Young expounded this false teaching (1867), Nebraska had just become the 37th US State. In 1844, the year Joe Smith was killed, there were 26 US States. The mob consisted of approx. 200 men, but there’s no documentation stating they represented every state. See Wikipedia for more info.

Aside from Young’s fallacious comment noted above, it’s safe to say that Smith’s demise was not the cause of the Civil War, or any war at all for that matter. If/when you read his entire speech from link provided, you’ll see this comment was in reference to event of the Civil War, killing 620,000. The Civil War was caused by the US splitting in two because of slavery which had nothing to do with Smith.

In conclusion, the nation would’ve never ‘obeyed’ Joseph Smith. Smith and company were pro-slavery, and had made noted remarks how their god had cursed black people. The Abolitionists in the north never would have bought into that theory.

When given the opportunity, do share this info with the Mormon  you know! Ask for their opinion, and don’t forget to tell them why it matters to you!

Teachings like this one today are an example of how this church has built one lie upon another in its 188 year history. It’s great insight on what made Mormonism what it is in the 21st century

If you’re LDS, what do you think about this?

With Love in Christ;
