Cornerstones of Mormonism: Prophet’s Voice, and Jesus

17 October

General Conference, ‘Come, Listen to a Prophet’s Voice,’ October 2018 “As we solidify in our lives the practice of listening to and heeding the voice of the living prophets, we will reap eternal blessings. … The chief cornerstone and building block of the Church and for our lives is Jesus Christ. This is His Church. President Nelson is His prophet. President Nelson’s teachings witness and reveal for our benefit the life and character of Jesus Christ. He speaks lovingly and knowingly of the Savior’s nature and of His mission. He has also borne frequent and fervent testimony of the divine calling of the living prophets—the Presidents of the Church—under whom he has served. …

Listening to and hearkening to living prophets will have profound, even life-changing effects in our lives. We are strengthened. We are more assured and confident in the Lord. We hear the word of the Lord. We feel God’s love. We will know how to conduct our lives with purpose.” – Dean M. Davies

Isaiah 28:16 “Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.”

1 Peter 2:6-7 “Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. 7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner.”

How can Jesus be the cornerstone when church members are told to come listen to a prophet’s voice? Where are the speeches of Jesus being God who gave His life on a cross for all sins? We’ve found there are two cornerstones of their church. The first is the voice of their prophets, and Jesus is their tagline.

Mr. Davies stated Russell Nelson has ‘borne frequent and fervor testimony of the divine calling of past prophets…’ No doubt Nelson has done just that.

Sadly, Nelson also denounced past prophetic voices in his speech by declaring it was with ‘profound regret they’ve acquiesced’ by calling themselves Mormons. That would have to include Monson, and every other prophet who’s referred to himself as a Mormon. As you might recall, the ‘I’m a Mormon’ campaign began in 2010.

Last, but not least, if you’ve built upon Jesus who is the cornerstone, what’s the deal with following the prophets?

Pray for members to pick up on the discrepancies in what their leaders say!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
