Comparison of Jesus’ Birth: LDS v. Bible

08 March

Isaiah 7:14; “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

With Easter right around the corner, we thought it’d be a good time to point out a few interpretations of His birth provided by the LDS Church compared to the word of God!

As you meet with your Mormon friends and loved ones in the upcoming glorious season, remember the following things are what Mormons believe about Him. Don’t pass up the opportunity to share the truth, and show with demonstrative examples what God says!

As a child I vividly remember reading my Bible, and noticed the disparaging contradictions between what it said, and what was being taught at church. I’m totally convinced my experience wasn’t a solitary one, and there are countless others who are living through the same thing I did years ago.

Don’t be afraid to share the truth with them! You never know if they’ve been praying for someone to offer help and encouragement. There are two different Jesus’ in the world of Mormonism – remind them of who the false Christ is, and where they can find the Real Jesus!

With Love in Christ;

1 Cor 1:18

Matthew 1:18; “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.”

Luke 1:34-35; “Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.”

Alma 7:10; “And behold, he shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers, she being a virgin, a precious and chosen vessel, who shall be overshadowed and conceive by the power of the Holy Ghost, and bring forth a son, yea, even the Son of God.”

Doctrines of Salvation 1:18-19; “He was not born without the aid of man, and that man was God! CHRIST NOT BEGOTTEN OF HOLY GHOST. I believe firmly that Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten Son of God in the flesh.” – Joseph Fielding Smith, 1954 [emp. not mine]

Discourses of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p 38; “Where Was There Ever a Son Without a Father? … …if Jesus had a Father, can we not believe that he had a Father also? I despise the idea of being scared to death at such a doctrine, for the Bible is full of it.” – Joseph Smith

Doctrine and Covenants 76:23; “For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father—”

Journal of Discourses 1:51; “Now, remember from this time forth, and forever, that Jesus Christ was not begotten by the Holy Ghost. if the Son was begotten by the Holy Ghost, it would be very dangerous to baptize and confirm females, and give the Holy Ghost to them, lest he should beget children…” – Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, April 9, 1852

Mormon Doctrine of Deity, p. 264; “When the time came that his first-born, the Savior, should come into the world and take a tabernacle, the Father came himself and favored that spirit with a tabernacle instead of letting any other man do it. The Savior was begotten by the Father of his spirit, by the same Being who is the Father of our spirits, and that is all the organic difference between Jesus Christ and you and me.” – BH Roberts, 1903
