Charity Requests Sent to LDS Thrown Away

29 September

Mark 8:36; “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”

Kimball Conference Report, April 1974, p. 187; “I don’t know if you receive them, but every week, every mail, I receive two or three or a dozen applications for charity, from all over the world saying: “Please send us money to help these poor people that are starving and homeless.”

Now then our work should go to our own people first, of course, and I have recently made up my mind. I just throw them into a pile and think, Well, there is another $5.00 that could go to the fast offerings… … “Bishops, don’t let yourselves be imposed upon.”

Now, brethren, we must not have waste. These people, if they are in need, should earn, as it has been talked about. … Don’t let this precious Welfare Program come to waste, but be generous in the sense of what they need.” – Spencer W. Kimball

Proverbs 21:13; “Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.”

Proverbs 28:27; “He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.”

I’m of the impression the Church can’t give of themselves simply because they have nothing to offer. When you won’t accept the Lord’s free gift of grace, the pool from which to draw blessings for others runs shallow. You can only give so much before you run out of your own goodness because after awhile, what you have to offer becomes rancid. We see this in the ungodly words of a self-proclaimed man of God; Spencer W. Kimball.

By definition, the word ‘charity’ means “something given to a person, or persons in need; alms”.

Regrettably, the charity system of the LDS Church doesn’t reflect this at all. We’re not against work mind you, and we also believe we should be good stewards of what the Lord has given to us. However, what’s up with throwing the requests in the trash? Couldn’t they find someone they could refer these dear people to in their time of need?

The Church’s aberrant view of what it means to receive, or give a gift, makes for a difficult day at the office, if you will. Their wholesale rejection of the biblical Jesus makes it impossible for Him to do His work through you, and makes any ‘gift’ from them, artificial.

If you read the full talk you will see that your summary of the sound bite does not track. The talk is about helping people help themselves. The pile of letters was not trash, it was a bunch of people that needed help.

Because of that need the Church has improved the ability to help.

An additional thought. In the 40 some years since that talk ewas given, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has improved the ability to to help people in need. Things like having airplane loads od emergency supplies ready to be shipped.

Using 40 year old stats out of context to make your point is not nice.

Another example of the “selfish” Mormons helping themselves. Do any of your religious orginasitions have anything like this to help your people?
