Brigham’s Dying Words

01 April

A Comprehensive History of the Church 5:509brigham-young1; “The last words he uttered, that were distinctly understood,” says the bedside chronicle, were— “Joseph, Joseph, Joseph!”” – B.H. Roberts, Historian

Acts 7:59-60; “And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. 60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.”

A man’s dying words can tell us more about him than a lifetime of things he may have said. It’s very sad the name of Jesus didn’t escape from Brigham’s lips in those precious last moments.

Keeping in mind what Jesus said about a man’s heart, it’s easy enough to see where Brigham’s heart was fixated.

Matthew 15:18; “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.”

Luke 6:44-45; “ For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes. 45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”
