Brigham’s Blasphemous Doctrine: Smith was Superior to All

14 August

Journal of Discourses 4:297 – 298; “It was not for me to question whether Joseph was dictated by the Lord at all times and under all circumstances or not I never had the feeling for one moment, to believe that any man or set of men or beings upon the face of the whole earth had anything to do with him, for he was superior to them all, and held the keys of salvation over them…

It was not my prerogative to call him in question with regard to any act of his life…

if He should suffer him to lead the people astray, it would be because they ought to be led astray. If He should suffer them to be chastised, and some of them destroyed, it would be because they deserved it…” – Brigham Young. Great Salt Lake City, March 29, 1857

Jeremiah 23:21; “I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.”

Oh, how my heart grieves over such statements! Okay, okay, so none of us deserve God’s grace and mercy – got that. However, the merciful God of the universe saw fit to send His Son to ransom us from the debt we’ve incurred from sin. He did this because of His great love!

God also provided a guideline to follow so we wouldn’t be deceived by the wiles of evilly disposed men like Brigham Young, and Joe Smith. Their actions and behavior wasn’t a result of incompetence, oh no! They knew exactly what they were doing, just as any of us do today when we reject our Lord each time we sin. Theirs was a case of gross disregard for God, not ignorance of Him. Make no mistake my friend, the following is of utmost importance!

It is our business to know whether or not, someone is speaking truth!

It is our business to call someone out, when they’re not worthy of being one of God’s righteous leaders.

It is our business to only take direction from wise, godly men whom the Lord has taken great care to put in leadership.

It is our business to show false teachers the door. We don’t invite him to leave, nor do we wait to see if they’ll change. One false prophecy is all it takes to boot someone off the pulpit stand.

And why, oh why, did Brigham teach that Smith was superior to all other teachers???
