BoM Alma 5:48: 4 Major Problems, and the Mormon’s Disbelief

03 December

Alma 5:48 “I say unto you, that I know of myself that whatsoever I shall say unto you, concerning that which is to come, is true; and I say unto you, that I know that Jesus Christ shall come, yea, the Son, the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace, and mercy, and truth. And behold, it is he that cometh to take away the sins of the world, yea, the sins of every man who steadfastly believeth on his name.”

John 1:1, 14 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”

Today we’re looking at four major problems in the BoM.

1.The first problem is how the Church has changed the text of the BoM. By inserting one small word, the entire meaning of this verse is changed.

Alma 5:48

1830 Version: “The Son of the only begotten of the Father”

1964 Version: “The Son, the Only Begotten of the Father”

Which version was actually inspired?

2.The other problem that shant be overlooked is the plagiarism. They’ve taken bits and pieces from John’s gospel, and woven them together, creating their own version of the gospel. You’ll note how the phrase, ‘full of grace and mercy and truth’, was taken from John 1:1, and verse 14.

You can just imagine the confusion in the minds of those who’ve read this over the years as they also read John’s gospel! I can say from personal experience, it causes uncertainty in trusting your own cognitive abilities.

Make no mistake my friends, their unscrupulous methods are intentional.

3.Another problem is found in the timing of this thing. It supposedly took place in BC 83. How did Alma know what John would say 173 years beforehand? John’s gospel was written c. 90 AD.

4.Lastly, there’s the overriding issue –

They don’t believe this as it contradicts everything else in Mormon dogma.

Mormons don’t believe you can be saved in just believing in Jesus’ name. If Mormons don’t perform good works, there is no salvation. Hence, the temple, missionaries, et al.

I know from experience many Mormons will turn to their Bibles during the Christmas season to read the gospels. Please pray for Jesus to intervene during the upcoming weeks!!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
