BoM Absurdities: Chopped Off Arms Carried Back to the King

26 May

Alma 17:36-39;“But Ammon stood forth and began to cast stones at them with his sling; yea, with mighty power he did sling stones amongst them; and thus he slew a certain number of them insomuch that they began to be astonished at his power; nevertheless they were angry because of the slain of their brethren, and they were determined that he should fall; therefore, seeing that they could not hit him with their stones, they came forth with clubs to slay him. 37 But behold, every man that lifted his club to smite Ammon, he smote off their arms with his sword; for he did withstand their blows by smiting their arms with the edge of his sword, insomuch that they began to be astonished, and began to flee before him; yea, and they were not few in number; and he caused them to flee by the strength of his arm. 38 Now six of them had fallen by the sling, but he slew none save it were their leader with his sword; and he smote off as many of their arms as were lifted against him, and they were not a few. 39 And when he had driven them afar off, he returned and they watered their flocks and returned them to the pasture of the king, and then went in unto the king, bearing the arms which had been smitten off by the sword of Ammon, of those who sought to slay him; and they were carried in unto the king for a testimony of the things which they had done.”

Jeremiah 16:17; “For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes.”

Questions:

What purpose does this exaggerated, not to mention bizarre, BoM story serve?

Does it bring anyone closer to Christ Jesus, and their walk with Him?

How has it changed the life of the average Mormon like my mother?

Why wasn’t this bloated, plagiarized version of David, and Goliath passed down to the next generation?

Compare it to the true biblical events like David and Goliath, filled with lessons even down to the descriptive meaning of words. 1 Samuel 17:50

Think about this:

The BoM story supposedly took place c. BC 91.

There were no hospitals. No blood banks. No antibiotics. No ambulances. No surgeons.

If they all had their arms chopped off, how did they carry them back to the king?

No fatalities of those who had their arms chopped off.

Six fatalities of those hit with the stones Ammon flung. You’ll notice how David didn’t kill Goliath with the stones, but with the sword.

Coincidence? Yeah, I didn’t think so either…

We’re praying for Christians to ask a Mormon about this unrealistic BoM story!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle

One Response to “BoM Absurdities: Chopped Off Arms Carried Back to the King”

The servants of the King carried the arms back to the King, the arms belonged to the men who scattered the flocks that the servants were tending. Please read the Book of Mormon with an open heart and you will understand the Christian teachings. The Savior Jesus Christ is spoken of all through the books of the Book of Mormon. The correct name is “The Church of Jesus Christ,” and the last part of the name is “of Latter Day Saints” which is the Saints of the Last Days. We believe in the New Testament Christ and not in a 3rd and 4th Century AD version of Christ
